So you may be wondering whatever happened to that awfully titled Brad Pitt movie about the life and times (and death) of the notorious outlaw Jesse James, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Well, actually, he just stole from the banks and may or may not have given to the poor. Hey, he’s an outlaw, you can’t trust them. Anyhoo. You know, the one called “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”? Well IGN finally has the answer, and here it is. Keep reading…
“According to the Los Angeles Times, the key issues behind the brouhaha are the film’s tone and over three-hour running time. The studio is said to have wanted more of a Clint Eastwood-style actioner, while director Andrew Dominik “wanted to deliver a dark, contemplative examination of fame and infamy, in the spirit of director Terrence Malick.”
There are also apparently different versions of the film going around, one by Pitt and the film’s co-producer, Ridley Scott, another by Dominik, and still another by the studio. The problem seems to stem from the film being way too damn long and test screenings thinking it sucks donkey balls.
But whatever they decide, they better hurry up. The film is scheduled for a September 21 release date, and that ain’t far away.
“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (expect that title to get shortened) stars Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Renner.
