I have absolutely no idea if these casting rumors are true, false, somewhere in-between, or not a chance in hell. IGN Movies reports these following rumors: Try Matt Damon, Adrien Brody, and Gary Sinese for Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, respectively. Probably. Maybe. Take it for what you will. Continue the trek…

Talk about a major geek alert. I’m pretty sure upon hearing this news, geeks everywhere is wetting their pants. Variety reports that Warner Brothers is considering bringing the Justice League of America to the big screen. (Well, knowing the PC nature of Hollywood, it’ll eventually be called “Justice League” minus the whole America part, because, frankly, Hollywood is a pandering sack of crap.) In any case, if Warner Brothers gets its way, you might see Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and many more DC super powerhouses coming to a big screen near you. Is this going to happen? Probably not. Can you imagine the money it would take to render all those groovy superpowers? Much less get the rights to all those characters in one movie?

The “Alien vs Predator” sequel, subtitled “Survival of the Fittest”, won’t hit theaters until late 2007 (December 25, to be exact), and I haven’t heard a whole lot about it yet, except that Reiko Aylesworth, gorgeous Michelle Dessler from “24″, will be the token human female chick that gets in the way between the Aliens and the Predators. Or, in this case, Predator, as they’ll be only one of the dreadlocked hunters versus a forest full of Aliens. Yes, I said “forest”. Apparently the sequel will also be set on Earth once again, this time in a rural area where the Aliens menace the townspeople. This is kind of a disappointment, as the ending of the first movie hinted at, and fans were expecting an off-world rematch between the two deadly alien species.

Look, kids! It’s Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jazz, and Rachet! Um, who the hell is Rachet? I watched the cartoon when I was a kid, and I don’t remember any Rachet. Then again, I was pretty young then, so maybe my kid mush brain just doesn’t remember this Rachet of which I speak of. Nevertheless, Paramount Pictures and General Motors have wisely teamed up to deliver these pictures of real-life Transformer cars. Obviously they can’t transform or anything (yes, it is quite lame), but this is how the robots are going to look like in car form in the movie. Cool, huh? Yeah, not so much. Eh, it’s a slow geek news day, so deal with it.

Geeks ahoy! Let’s face it, if you care about the Saturn Awards, you’re probably a pretty big geek, so you already know what the Saturn Awards is, but if not, you can check out more info about it at their official site. Basically speaking, the Saturn Awards is kind of like the People’s Choice Awards. People in Hollywood don’t really care about it unless they’ve won something (and even then they probably won’t show up to collect their hardware), or they’re a small show/movie, in which case this is their Oscars. Actually, glancing over the list of nominations, I’m kind of shock the Saturn Awards now have categories for “Best International Film” and whatnot. Heck, they’ve even nominated “Casino Royale” at least twice! What is going on here? Putting those kinds of movies in the show kinda defeats the purpose of your origins, isn’t it? Anywho, read on for the big list of 2007 Saturn Awards nominees…

Those guys over at The Sci Fi Channel are really going all out to make sure that their last “Stargate” series, “Atlantis”, remains on the air. With the show set for its fourth season, the producers have tapped “Stargate: SG1’s” Amanda Tapping to join the show, continuing the character of Sam Carter that sthe played on “SG1″ for the last 10 years. Also joining “Atlantis” is “Firefly” castaway Jewel Staite, who had previously been on the show in a past episode, but will now have a permanent role. According to Sci Fi Channel, while introducing Tapping and Staite to the cast, they’ll be killing off “beloved friends”.

Holy mother of crap. I didn’t see this coming at all. First there were rumors (which turned out to be true) that “Ghost Rider” wasn’t being screened for critics, and then news that the producers were already looking at a sequel, and — well, let’s just say it: I thought this movie was gonna do good, but not great business. It is a comic book movie, after all, and that usually does pretty well in the first week. Not always, but usually pretty well, going by the last few years. But damn — $44.5 million in its opening week??? Holy Cripes. I didn’t see that coming AT ALL.

Via AICN, here’s news that James Cameron has settled on the cast of his new big-budget (and sure to be pioneering) sci-fi movie “Avatar”, and has already shot a couple for a couple of days in the jungle. Besides gorgeous Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, the cast consists of Peter Mensah, Joel David Moore, C.C.H. Pounder, and Laz Alonso. The stars are Zoe Saldana and an Aussie bloke by the name of Sam Worthington, who no one has ever heard of outside of Australia, but that won’t remain true once “Avatar” hits screens Summer 2009. Yes, you’ll have to wait 2 years to see “Avatar”. Oh well, nothing good comes quickly, right?

John Singleton, former wunderkind director of “Boyz in the Hood”, thinks the reason that Hollywood hasn’t given him the dough to make “Luke Cage” is because Cage is a black superhero, and Hollywood studios are skittish around a black dude in tights. Says Singleton about the delayed project to ComicBookMovie.com: “Well, because it’s a black superhero and so studios still, some studios, don’t understand that yeah, it is a black superhero but so what? He’s a superhero. That hasn’t been done yet. Like I said, unless it’s right, I ain’t gonna do it.” Tyrese Gibson (”2 Fast 2 Furious”) is attached to star as the titular brother with powers.

Today brings us a classic case of Good News, Bad News, boys and girls. The good news is that the producers who did Frank Miller’s “300″ now wants to bring his other graphic novel, “Ronin” to the big screen just like “300″. The bad news? They’ve tapped Sylvain White, the guy who did “Stomp the Yard”, to direct it. Yes, this is great news and crappy news all in the same breath. In “Ronin”, a Japanese ronin (a masterless Samurai) is re-incarnated in a dystopic near-future New York, and much bloodletting ensues. You know, your normal Sunday morning in present New York.

Via IGN, who reports that Summer Glau has landed a role on and is already shooting the pilot for FOX TV’s upcoming sci-fi series “The Sarah Conner Chronicles”, the TV version of James Cameron’s popular “Terminator” franchise. The show, of course, will take place after the events of “Termiantor 2″ and before “Terminator 3″, and follows a teen John Conner and his mother Sarah (played by “300’s” Lena Headey). IGN speculates that Glau, because of her martial arts moves from “Firefly”, might be tapped as a new killer Terminator robot, but that’s just a guess on their part. Geeks should enjoy the thought of River Tam either battling (or battling as a) Terminator.

Here’s your first look at Doctor Doom in the upcoming “Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer”. It’s conceptual art of what the bad doctor is supposed to look like via Joblo. So what do you think? Yeah, me, too. Blah. Not that I’m not excited about “Fantastic Four 2″, because that wouldn’t be entirely correct. I mean, I’ll probably go watch it anyway, but you know, compared to “Spiderman 3″ and “300″, it’s not like “Fantastic Four 2″ will keep me up nights waiting with bate breath for the opening, and this Doom sketch doesn’t do much for me in that regard. But anyways, here it is.

Variety’s got the inside track on an upcoming epic battle at the box office between Steven Spielberg’s “Indian Jones 4″ and the Wachowski Brothers’ “Speed Racer” live-action movie. Here’s what they said: “Looking for a Memorial Day adventure, Paramount Pictures will release Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones 4″ on May 22, 2008. The Harrison Ford starrer — which resurrects the franchise after a nearly 20-year hiatus — will go up against Warner Bros. tentpole “Speed Racer,” which bows a day after ‘Indy 4.’” Holy cow. “Indiana Jones 4″ versus “Speed Racer”. Can Harrison Ford handle all the action? One can only hope.

Wow, talk about a Geeks Galore bloodbath. First Joss Whedon, King Geek himself, leaves the Wonder Woman movie, then David Goyer, Comic Book Movie King himself, leaves the Flash movie, and now JJ Abrams, the Wacky TV Show Guy, has left the director’s chair of the long-planned Star Trek prequel movie. This from Latino Review: “JJ Abrams has left the “Star Trek XI” directors seat. Instead, he is going to direct “Cloverfield,” ironically enough, for Paramount. Another amicable parting it seems.”. Oh well. So no scenes of a young Spock and Kirk putting on red wigs and battling smoky monsters on an island? Bummer.
6 February 2007
I’m not sure if Jon Favreau’s big-budget “Iron Man” movie is already shooting or what, but it looks like Robert Downey Jr., star of the upcoming Marvel comic book movie, is in full Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) mode. Check out the actor at Miami during the recent Super Bowl XLI between the Colts and the Bears, sporting the grey-sprinkled facial hair commonly associated with the Stark character in the comic books. And hey, is it me, or does Robert also look a lot more buff than he usually does?

Okay, so as it turns out, David Goyer may have left the Flash movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s dead. According to The Hollywood Reporter via here, Warner Brothers has just appointed Shawn Levy, whose last movie was the mega hit “Night at the Museum” with Ben Stiller, to direct the upcoming movie. Before he hit it big with “Museum”, Levy did “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “The Pink Panther”, which would lead you to believe “The Flash” might end up a campy superhero flick. Not so, says the article. While the movie won’t be a campy comedy, it also won’t be as dark as Goyer had wanted it. Apparently Goyer wanted a “dark-themed” Flash movie. Too dark for Warner.
3 February 2007
Man, this has been a bad week for comic book movies. First Warner killed Joss Whedon’s “Wonder Woman” movie, and now David Goyer has let it be known via his blog that Warner has also killed his involvement in the long-gestating “Flash” movie. Says Goyer about the demise of the Flash: “Well, I’ve been waiting a few months to relate this news — but I am sad to say that my version of The Flash is dead at WB. The God’s honest truth is that WB and myself simply couldn’t agree on what would make for a cool Flash film.” Oh well.
3 February 2007
Oh well, you sort of saw it coming, didn’t you? How long has Joss Whedon been “writing” that Wonder Woman script? It seems like a lifetime ago that geeks everywhere were geeking to the news that their main man was set to write and direct a live-action, big-screen version of the DC comic book heroine. And wasn’t it just yesterday that every actress in Hollywood was having their PR people work overtime to have their name associated with the role? Then all of a sudden Warner announces that they had bought someone’s Wonder Woman script (not by Whedon!) for some unfathomable reason, and the very next day Whedon walks off the project for good. Oh my, what is happening over there? Will we never see a Wonder Woman movie? Curiouser and curiouser…

I still don’t “get” the whole idea behind making a “The Simpsons” movie, but what do I know, I still can’t figure out the popularity of those “CSI” shows. Anyways, some early movie stills have begun to leak onto the Internet from the movie. They’re nothing to get all excited about, but, you know, in case you were interested, here they are, courtesy of a Russian site. Or at least I think it’s Russian. Could be Yugoslavian for all I know. But I digress. Here’s Homer and Bart doing stuff while looking really yellow. I guess they’re going for a widescreen look. Why? Who knows.

Luke Cage was a black comic book superhero codenamed Powerman from the early ’70s, created by the Archie Goodwin and first drawn by the legendary John Romita, Sr for the House of Ideas. Cage usually teamed up with another superhero called Iron Fist (basically a millionaire playboy, which struck a constrast with Cage’s “hood” creds) and “hired” themselves out as freelance superheroes to the downtrodden and poor. There have been rumblings for a while that Tyrese Gibson has wanted to bring Cage to the big screen, with John Singleton of “Boyz in the Hood” fame attached to direct. This would seem like a project right up Singleton’s alley, who has already proven that he’s kinda left that “Hood” stuff behind and embraced commercialism when he helmed the vacuous “2 Fast 2 Furious”.
