French actor Gaspard Ulliel steps into the humongous shoes of Anthony Hopkins as young Hannibal Lecter, aka Hannibal the Cannibal, the mad genius serial killer who would terrorize Jodie Foster and Edward Norton, in the upcoming “Hannibal Rising”, Thomas Harris’s prequel to his popular Hannibal character. What makes me have faith that this may be good is the attachment of Harris’s name as writer of the novel and the screenplay. That in itself should mean something good.

Via Joblo, here’s a nifty little scene from the new Zhang Yimou martial arts epic “Curse of the Golden Flower”, which features ninjas attacking a building and getting ambushed themselves in turn. Kinda cool. The film stars Jay Chou (”Initial D”), Chow Yun Fat (the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean 3″), and Gong Li (”Miami Vice”), who returns to working with Yimou for the first time in a long while. The film is about “the ill-fated romance between an imperial bodyguard and a prince takes the lovers on a dangerous journey where royal family secrets are revealed.” Doesn’t sound all that hot, but the video and the pictures below do show that this is an actual martial arts movie, and not some wacky road movie.

Face it, Hollywood chicks dig the Vice. Miami Vice, that is. And although most of them were probably not even alive when the show was originally on TV, they’ve come out of the Hollywood Hills for the premiere of Michael Mann’s remake of his own television show, starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, who, according to the previews, is no one’s second banana in the flick. Present and accounted for, vices in hand, were Garcelle “She Gives me NYPD Blue Balls” Beauvais-Nilon, Emmanuelle “Sweet Chick” Chriqui, Kelly “OKay, okay, Stop with the Hu’s That girl Jokes Already” Hu, Gong “The Bell Gongs For Me, Beeyatch!” Li, Angie “Someone Give Me a Job” Harmon, and of course, Michelle “Tough Girls don’t Shave” Rodriguez.

I have to admit, the big-screen remake of “Miami Vice” is one of the few movies I’m actually looking forward to in 2006. Heck, I didn’t even care about “Pirates of the Caribbean” or overly enthuse about “Superman Returns”, but damn, I’m really looking forward to Michael Mann’s remake of his own show. And no, I didn’t “grow up” with the show in the ’80s. I was but a wee little one when the show came on, so the only memories I have of the original series were bad ones (the clothes! the closes!). In any case, here are some stills of the Gong Li from the upcoming crime flick, which stars Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell as hardcore undercover cops. From a couple of these pictures, it looks like Gong is getting something else hard from Colin. Ahem.

Two fantastic pictures of the beautiful Chinese actress Gong Li, who recently appeared in Esquire Magazine. If you don’t know the name, Li is an insanely popular Chinese actress who recently made the jump to Hollywood with “Memoirs of a Geisha”, and will soon be in the “Miami Vice” remake and the “Silence of the Lambs” prequel.
