Watch Iron Man on Video Doing … Stuff

6 May 2007

Look! Iron Man is sitting down! Now he’s standing! Now he’s rolling over! Wait, I think he’s getting up. Yes, Iron Man is standing up! And, um, he’s down again. What the hell? It’s all in the day and life of a billionaire industrialist who moonlights as the Invincible Iron Man, armored superhero and secret boozehound. I.e. a spy video shot from the “Iron Man” movie set that is currently being hosted on IESB.net. Head over there now and take a look at a clunky Iron Man-clad someone doing something that isn’t really all that interesting, but hey, if you wondered how the Iron Man armor would look like live, I guess this is your first glimpse of it.

Spider-Man Webs $59 Million in One Day

6 May 2007

And they say massive Hollywood hype is dead. Shhhia-right. Sony brought out the big guns for “Spider-Man 3″, sending their stars everywhere overseas (Tokyo, Paris, Sydney!) before even coming back home. By the time the film opens in the U.S., American moviegoers were so jacked up to see it that they did — in bunches. “Spider-Man 3″ raked in a cool $59 Million in just one day of business. That’s a new record, beating last year’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, which collected a $55.8 million booty.

Liv Tyler is Betty Ross in THE INCREDIBLE HULK

5 May 2007

The Hollywood Reporter says that former “Lord of the Rings” elfen babe Liv Tyler will be joining French director Louis Leterrier’s “re-imagining” of the Hulk (called, not-so-creatively, “The Incredible Hulk”) as the new Betty Ross. I hasten to call “new and improved”, because frankly, I don’t think you can improve upon anything associated with Jennifer Connelly, who I think is just incredible. But Tyler isn’t bad, and she certainly can do the dole-eye stuff that the part requires as she watches her lover Bruce Banner (Edward Norton, replacing Eric Bana) “hulk out” and go on rampages like the Baldwin brothers with too much liquor in them. Apparently the new Hulk movie will pretend Ang Lee’s 2003 version never happened. Hollywood, you gotta love’em.

Nicole Kidman’s THE INVASION Gets a Teaser Poster

5 May 2007

Via ComingSoon.net, the first teaser poster for Nicole Kidman’s (very) troubled sci-fi movie “The Invasion” (based, of course, off the classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” movie) has finally hit the web. (Scroll down to see it or keep reading the pointless text that comes after…this…) When a mysterious alien infection spreads like an epidemic over the entire country, a woman fights to save her own life and the life of her son, who may hold the key to stopping the takeover. “The Invasion” stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam, Malin Akerman, and is directed (kinda) by German Oliver Hirschbiegel.

Another Look at the Iron Man Armor by Stan Winston

4 May 2007

Here’s another look at the Iron Man armor (I think this is a live-action look, but it could be computer CGI and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference — the things they can do with CGI nowadays, I tell ya, incredible) courtesy of Entertainment Weekly magazine, who has an article on the movie here. The design is by famous F/X designer Stan Winston (basically he’s the guy who did everything worth watching, and has been for a few decades now). Like it? Don’t? I kinda like it. It looks like the one in the comic, but I still can’t imagine a real human being squeezing into that thing. Looks cool, though.

Movie Preview: Three Kingdoms – Resurrection of the Dragon

4 May 2007

Big-budget Asian epics have lost their novelty about the time Zhang Yimou came out with his “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers”. Now it seems like every Asian filmmaker is going for the “historical action epic” movie, and one of the most highly anticipated is Andy Lau and Maggie Q.’s “Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon”, which is based on the ever-so popular “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” novels written by Luo Guangzhong nearly 600 years ago. (John Woo’s own “Battle of Red Cliff” is also based on parts of it.) Variety says “Resurrection of the Dragon” has been budgeted at $20 million, and is now shooting in China under helmer Daniel Lee (”Black Mask”), who also wrote the screenplay adaptation.

Zak Penn to Write AVENGERS Movie

4 May 2007

Oh, to be Zak Penn. At the moment, I think there are only two people I’d want to be if I ever got into screenwriting — either Zak Penn or David Goyer, the kings of the comic book movie adaptations. Coming off the last two “X-Men” films and “Elektra” (okay, let’s just pretend “Elektra” didn’t exist), Penn is now (ahem) penning “The Incredible Hulk” re-imagining and working on “The Avengers” movie. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s also got “Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run” in the pipe. Geez, whose leg do you gotta hump to get this kind of work? I want that job! And according to this interview Penn did with IGN, he apparently wants a movie along the lines of Mark Millar’s “Ultimates” comic book. Niiiice.

Jessica Simpson is a MAJOR MOVIE STAR

4 May 2007

People.com reports that Jessica Simpson has lined up her next movie: “Major Movie Star”, where she will play a down-on-her-luck actress who enlists in the Marines in an attempt to jumpstart her career. Hmm, sounds kinda like Simpson and her singing career. Wait, she still has a singing career, right? Well at least she can always ride the coattails of boyfriend and fellow singer John Mayer. I hear they’re doing swell together. Simpson starts shooting “Major Movie Star” in Louisiana (for basic training scenes, I’m presuming) later this month.

Brad Pitt’s JESSE JAMES Movie: Where Is It?

4 May 2007

So you may be wondering whatever happened to that awfully titled Brad Pitt movie about the life and times (and death) of the notorious outlaw Jesse James, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Well, actually, he just stole from the banks and may or may not have given to the poor. Hey, he’s an outlaw, you can’t trust them. Anyhoo. You know, the one called “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”? Well IGN finally has the answer, and here it is. Keep reading…

Katherine Heigl Gets KNOCKED UP

3 May 2007

In her upcoming comedy “Knocked Up”, Katherine Heigl of “Grey’s Anatomy” fame (although for my money she’ll always been Steven Seagal’s niece or cousin or daughter (I forgot which) from “Under Siege 2″ — you remember, the one on the train, before Steven’s career went off the rails?) plays a girl who has a one-night stand, and ends up getting knocked up i.e. impregnated as a result. This forces her to pull the ol Hollywood gag — get married to the guy who knocked her up. Trailer for “Knocked Up” and gratuitously sexy pictures of Katherine below.

First Pictures from Andrew Goth’s GALLOWWALKER

3 May 2007

Fangoria’s got your first look at Andrew Goth’s upcoming supernatural/zombie/western “Gallowwalker”. (See images below.) The film will star Wesley Snipes and here’s a nice little plot synopsis via IMDB.com: “A gunman knows too well the ways of vengeance. Fast and furious, he has killed every man who crossed him. But his gift with a gun comes with a curse. All those who die by his hand will return. Enter the world of GALLOWWALKER, where vengeance lives forever.” Most people probably won’t care, but Snipes is playing a role that was originally slated for Chow Yun-Fat. I remember seeing sketches with Fat in the role a few years back, when the project was still called “The Wretched”.

Josh Hartnett Will COME WITH THE RAIN

3 May 2007

Now this sounds like a movie I can get into. Variety reports that Josh Hartnett will be starring in a movie called “I Come With the Rain”, where he’ll play a private detective haunted by his past with a serial killer, who goes to Hong Kong in search of an heir who can heal with a touch. The writer/director is Tran Anh Hung (”The Scent of Green Papaya”), and the film will be mostly (if not entirely) shot in Hong Kong. This definitely sounds like a very cool premise for a movie, and I just hope it doesn’t turn out like some “Golden Child” reject. Harnett is one busy boy; besides “I Come with the Rain”, which will shoot in June, Harnett’s got the vampire movie “30 Days of Nights” coming out and “Resurrecting the Champ” with Samuel L. Jackson.

George Clooney to ESCAPE FROM TEHRAN

3 May 2007

So sue me, but whenever I hear George Clooney’s name attached to a movie that doesn’t have the word “Ocean” in it, I immediately think, “Oh crap, here comes another self-serving political movie by George that’s little more than Leftist Hollywood propaganda.” But lo and behold, oh George seems intent on making a movie that doesn’t wag its fingers at the Evils of America. According to Variety Georgie’s new film is called “Escape from Tehran”, which he will only produce, but may star and direct should he decide to later on. “Escape from Tehran” is a true story about how the CIA, with help from some Hollywood types, pretended to shoot a Hollywood movie in Tehran during the 1979 hostage crisis as a cover to rescue six hostages.

Movie Preview: 1408, Trailer and Stills

2 May 2007

The upcoming John Cusack/Samuel L. Jackson horror movie “1408″ looks really good, but I have two reservations about it: 1) It’s adapted from a Stephen King short story, so the movie adaptation (unless it’s by a guy named Frank Darabont) will probably suck. 2) It’s adapted from a Stephen King short story, so the “ghost” will probably end up being some spider alien from outer space or some spider creature from the center of the Earth. But anyways, here are some promo images from “1408″, starring John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Jasmine Jessica Anthony, Christopher Carey, Mary McCormack, and directed by Mikael Hafstrom (”Derailed”).

300 Spears 5 MTV Movie Awards Nominations

2 May 2007

Frank Miller’s 300 cleaned up at the box office, and now it’s preparing to spear the living bejesus out of the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, nabbing five nominations, including Best Movie, making it tops. Coming in a close second is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” with four. Nominations for 300 includes: Best Performance for star Gerard Butler (Leonidas), Breakthrough Performance for Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo), Best Villain for Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes), and of course, everyone’s favorite, Best Fight for Leonidas’ battle with the “Uber Immortal” aka that deformed Giant, who actually isn’t an Immortal, but nevermind. Continue for the rest of the nominations…

SPIDER-MAN 3 Set to Dominate the World

2 May 2007

No, seriously. Sony seems to have developed some kind of meglomaniacal plan when it comes to releasing “Spider-Man 3″. The film has already bowed in Asia and parts of Europe to record ticket sales, and will be opening wide in 4,253 theaters across America on Friday, the largest release in history. All this, despite very lukewarm reviews for the film so far. The AP wrote: “Spidey the Third feels like an even greater letdown following Spidey Part Deux, which was the rare sequel that surpassed the original.” But according to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 71% approval, with 32 positive reviews and 13 negative reviews among the counted reviewers so far.

Nicole Kidman Wants to MARRY A MILLIONAIRE

1 May 2007

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Nicole Kidman will be producing and starring in the remake of the Marilyn Monroe classic “How to Marry a Millionaire”, but with a contemporary rehaul of the original story. Speaking of which, the 1953 original concerned three women in New York who set out to find eligible millionaires to marry, but find true love with non-millionaire men instead. The script for the remake will be written by Sacha Gervasi, who penned Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal” starring Tom Hanks. Nicole Kidman, meanwhile, is busy in Australia filming Baz Luhrmann’s historical epic “Australia” with Hugh Jackman.

New FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER Trailer Looks Pretty Good

1 May 2007

The Silver Surfer speaks. Doctor Doom (or maybe that’s a Doombot?) gets blasted. The Thing becomes the Human Torch. And yes, Jessica Alba still looks totally clueless about everything, but then again, that’s her idea of “acting”, so just go with it. It’s a new trailer for “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, and it’s got some pretty kick-ass scenes in it, including what looks like the Human Torch absorbing all the powers of the Fantastic Four in order to battle the Silver Surfer. Plus, the more I see of the Silver Surfer, the more I like him. It’s gonna look pretty damn good on screen, I think. “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” opens June 15, 2007, and you can catch the new high-def trailers in glorious Quicktime here. Below are some screen grabs from the new trailer.

Luke Ford, Michelle Yeoh Joins MUMMY 3

1 May 2007

Rachel Weisz is out, but 26-year old Australian actor Luke Ford and Chinese actress Michelle Yeoh are in the “Mummy 3″, reports Variety. In the film, Ford will play Alex O’Connell, the 20ish son of adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), who journeys into the forbidden tombs of China and into the Himalayas, where they run into a new shape-shifting mummy, a former Chinese emperor who was cursed by a female wizard. Kung fu superstar Jet Li, in only his second villainous role, will play the mummy, while Michelle Yeoh will assay the part of the wizard.

Prison Break to Get Remade as a Chinese Movie

1 May 2007

Who knew busting out of prison would become so popular? Fox probably had no idea they had a break-out (har har, get it?) hit on their hands when they signed off on “Prison Break”. The show has just wrapped up its second season, and already has a season-long commitment for a third. So no matter what happens with Michael Scofield (last seen in a Panama prison where, one presumes, he will plot to escape from ala the first season), there will be three full seasons after a mostly forced season season. And now the Chinese plan to adapt the series into a 3-hour plus movie.
