When in Rome with Rosamund Pike
As the saying goes, when in Rome, catch some Rosamund Pike at the 2nd Rome Film Festival where she’s busy promoting her new movie “Fugitive Pieces”. The premises: “A child escapes from Poland during World War II and first heads to Greece before coming of age in Canada.” Yeah, I know, real uplifting stuff. What World War II movie isn’t? Ahem, what was I saying? Oh right, any Rosamund Pike is good Rosamund Pike in my book, and she’s certainly looking very lovely here on the red carpet. But then again, we are talking about Rosamund, whose name conjures up images of feudal Japanese Samurai doing battle. Or is that Rashomon? Eh, same difference.

I’m still kind of stunned that British actress Rosamund Pike is not more famous than she is in the States. What does a woman have to do to gain worldwide fame? She’s been in major movies (“Die Another Day”), she’s starred in big movies (“Doom”), and she’s done movies with big name actors like Anthony Hopkins (“Fracture”), and yet if you were to ask 10 people if they knew who Rosamund Pike was, I’m willing to bet 9 of them wouldn’t have a clue, and the 10th one would have to think about it. Which is a crying shame, as Rosamund Pike deserves to be recognized everywhere. In any case, here’s my little part in helping Rosamund to get noticed some more. Sundays with Rosamund Pike (here attending the Toronto Film Festival) is always a good thing.

“A cat-and-mouse game ensues between a hapless district attorney and a man who believes he has committed the perfect crime.” That’s the premise of the movie “Fracture”, a thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Anthony Hopkins, Embeth Davidtz, and of course, the oh-so-lovely Rosamund Pike. Gosling versus Hopkins? I don’t know they they didn’t cast Edward Norton and call this thing “Red Dragon 2″ and be done with it. In any case, the trailer looks interesting, if only because Anthony Hopkins can read the phone book and it’d look interesting to me. Plus, let’s not forget, Rosamund is in it, too, and she’s always worth a rental in my book.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything with the oh so lovely British lass Rosamund Pike, so I thought I’d post these pictures of Rosamund on stage doing “Summer and Smoke”. What’s it all about? According to Wikipedia: Summer and Smoke is a play by Tennessee Williams which tells the story of a lonely, unmarried minister’s daughter who is courted by a former love, a wild, undisciplined doctor. I’m guessing Rosamund plays the “minister’s daughter who is courted”. But I could be wrong. In any case, I’m still waiting for “Doom 2″. Who’s with me? Anyone? Anyone?

I admit, she’s looked better, not to mention looked less bored. Rosamund seems bored out of her mind here, no wonder that glass of red wine is creeping closer and closer towards her…
