No, seriously. Ten year old Sajani Shakya is worshipped as a living Goddess, one of about a dozen such goddesses in Nepal who are considered earthly manifestations of the Hindu goddess Kali. See, this is why Nepal is Nepal, and the rest of the world aren’t. We don’t worship 10-year old girls as Goddesses, for one. And when our Goddess visits another country, we don’t go “stripping” her of her title. The story: After Sajani Shakya visited the U.S. to help promote a documentary that featured her, she was “stripped” of her title of child goddess by Nepal! The reason? “Elders in Nepal have said the trip tainted her purity, and purity for a goddess is everything.” So once again, let me repeat what I said above: this is why they are Nepal and we aren’t.
