Nicolas Cage and Jessica Biel couldn’t push the teen thriller “Disturbia” from the top spot, where it continues its reign for a third consecutive weak in what is being called a weak month for the American box office. The teen ghost movie “The Invisible” landed at #2 with $7.6 million in its debut, while Cage and Biel’s “Next” landed in third with $7.2 million, also in its debut. Two other new films, the Steve Austin starrer “The Condemned” barely scratched out the 9th spot with $4.0 million, while the Jamie Kennedy comedy “Kickin’ It Old Skool” moonwalked its way into a lowly $2.8 million in 11th place. Of course, once “Spider-Man 3″ opens next week, none of these guys will get any action, so I guess it’s academic.

If you’ve been around movies, but in particular, the movie industry, regardless of how peripheral (such is my case), you’ve likely heard the name “Shia LeBeouf” more times than you care to give a damn about. The little tyke seems to be constantly linked to every project, from “Transformers” to “Indiana Jones” to the play being put on by the high school down my street. But it seems like the name Shia LeBeouf has finally resulted in something tangible — a #1 hit movie at the box office over the weekend, with “Disturbia” taking in an impressive $23 million in its debut. I guess all that MTV hype finally paid off.

Sarah Roemer is one of the young stars of the upcoming thriller “Disturbia”, aka the remake of Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” for anyone who has never seen the original, i.e. everyone who watches MTV. It stars that “It” guy of the moment, Shia LeBouf, who has been rumored to be in everything from the latest “Indiana Jones” movie to “Speed Racer” to everything else in development in Hollywood right now. In it, a teen (LeBouf) confined to his house for a crime is convinced his next door neighbor is a serial killer. Sarah Roemer plays the really hot neighbor girl who likes to swim in a bikini. Nice.
