Surprisingly, actress Shannyn Sossamon has become something of a genre actress, which is really odd because I don’t think anyone thought she would end up like that. Mind you, not that starring in horror movies is a bad thing, because let’s face it, work is work, right? And when you’re an actor, even lame work is pretty damn good. And it’s not like Shannyn Sossamon doesn’t still get to do theatrical work; she can be seen in the upcoming One Missed Call horror movie, and on TV with CBS’s Moonlight, about a vampire who works part time as a private investigator. Or something like that. I haven’t actually seen the show, but I hear it’s good, and Shannyn Sossamon is apparently the show’s femme fatale. Some promos.

Shannyn Sossamon starring in the Hollywood remake of the Japanese horror movie “One Missed Call” isn’t a surprise, because she’s mostly been doing genre work now, but I am shock to see Edward Burns co-starring. Didn’t this guy used to have an actual movie career? Oh well. Anyways, here are some “One Missed Call” stills with Shannyn Sossamon. And yes, that name is very, very hard to spell. I have to look it up every single time, and I really wish she would change her name to something else, maybe like, “Shannon Sass” or something similar. Is that too much to ask? Well probably, but Shannyn looks good in the movie, which I’m sure will blow. But don’t take my word for it. (Although you should.)

Here’s the premise of the new show Moonlight: A vampire lands work as a private investigator and falls for a mortal woman. Okay, so he “lands work” as a PI? What does that mean? He’s a vampire, so I’m guessing he’s been around a long time, and he has to go around “landing” work? Can’t he do something more dignified? Anyways, I’m also guessing that the “mortal woman” he falls for is the lovely Sophia Myles, who has just been cast on the show to replace another girl whose name I don’t recall. The show stars Alex O’Loughlin as the vampire PI, Shannyn Sossamon as a sexy vampire (is there any other kind?), and Brian White as the token black guy. It looks like it has promise, but I dunno — a vampire who is also a private investigator? Didn’t they already do a show about that called Angel?

I seem to recall that Shannyn Sossamon was supposed to be one of those new wave of “next big thing” actresses, but for some reason it just never panned out. It’s not like Hollywood didn’t give her plenty of reasons to wedge her way into America’s hearts, with major roles in major movies like “A Knight’s Tale”, “40 Days and 40 Nights”, and “The Order”. But it just never happened, and America never bit. Who knows why? Shannyn Sossamon is certainly pretty enough, and she seems to be talented enough, but it just never, well, happened. Her latest is the American remake of the Japanese horror film “One Missed Call”, but I don’t have much hope for this one, either. But Shannyn Sossamon? We think she’s still pretty hot.
