In the world of comics, Frank Miller is a God. The guy who single-handedly re-invented superhero comic books in the ’80s with “The Dark Knight Returns”, then did the same to “Daredevil” and a dozen other comics, is just now getting his dues in the mainstream. After the mega success of “Sin City” (with “Sin City 2″ on its way) and the upcoming Spartans kick ass “300″, Miller’s plate is pretty full, but in an interview with Sci Fi Wire, he talks about how he’d like to bring “Hard Boiled” and “Give me Liberty” to the screen. And hey, check it out, he’s also working on writing and directing “The Spirit”!
From Sci Fi Wire:
“I’d like to do Hard Boiled,” Miller said. “I think it would be extraordinarily visual. It’s one of the blackest comedies that could possibly ever be done. And I would like to someday tell the story of [Give Me Liberty's] Martha Washington, but that would mean a lot of hours. I’d have to find the right actress and the right format to do it in.”
The writer-illustrator-director also confirmed that things look good for The Spirit, a film he’ll write and direct based on the comic strip and comic-book hero created in 1940 by the legendary Will Eisner. “The Spirit seems to be happening,” Miller said. “I’m typing away.”
I’m not such a big fan of “Give me Liberty”, and “The Spirit” is not my cup of tea, but “Hard Boiled” is pretty groovy stuff.
