Via AICN, here’s your first look at a 2-minute battle sequence from the upcoming Jet Li, Andy Lau, and Takeshi Kaneshiro Chinese war epic “The Warlords”. I gotta admit, I like all those three guys, and the idea of the movie intrigues me, but this video, which is cut in a manner that is intended to “sell” the movie to international buyers (it’s not exactly a trailer) doesn’t do it for me. It looks okay. A big action set piece. But you can see the fake “jabbing” going on — you know, you get 500 people together, give them kinda-real weapons, and tell them to “pretend to fight”, which they do, and it looks like crap in a wide shot. But hey, maybe I’m wrong.
“The Warlords” is a heroic tale of three blood brothers and their struggle in the midst of war and political upheaval. It is based on “The Assassination of Ma,” a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) story about the killing of general Ma Xinyi. The story was filmed by Zhang Che in 1973 as The Blood Brothers.
