If you’re a sports fan, you were glued to ESPN during the 2007 NFL Draft all day Saturday, and like most people, you were shocked by a lot of things that happened. For instance, Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, who many thought was the best quarterback in the draft (even better than eventual #1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell according to some), fell all the way out of the 10s and into the 20s — #22, to be exact, where the hapless Cleveland Browns snapped him up as their second first round pick. And how about Troy Smith? The Heisman winner? Aka the best player in college football in 2006? He ended up in Baltimore, who took him with the final pick of the fifth round.
All in all, most of the much hyped 2006 Ohio State football squad had a good day/bad day on Draft Day, with gimpy wide receiver Ted Ginn going in the first round — and that was to a chorus of boos directed at the Miami Dolphins management, who announced the pig to a hostile Miami crowd — and tight end/wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez going in the 32nd slot.
But considering some of the past Heisman winners, especially the quarterbacks, Troy Smith should be happy he was drafted at all. 2003 Heisman winner Jason White didn’t even get drafted, and no one would even give the Oklahoma quarterback a chance at grid iron success. And don’t get me started on Andre Ware. And Chris Leak, the Gators quarterback whose team destroyed Smith’s in the championship game, didn’t even get drafted.

From Big Man on Campus to Little Man on Draft Day 2007.
