Sam Raimi to Direct THE HOBBIT?
So word around the Internet Fanboy Water Cooler (or IFWC as I like to call it — well, not really) is that Sam Raimi is currently pondering offers to take over the directing reins of “The Hobbit” from Peter Jackson, who is still in all manner of legal fisticuffs with New LIne Cinema, the studio that owns “The Hobbit”, post-”Lord of the Rings” glory. Who knows what’s going on there, or who is telling the truth about the situation, but it certainly seems like Sam Raimi is reaping the benefits. And coming off three huge films in “Spider-Man” 1, 2, and the upcoming 3, it’s time for Raimi to get p-a-i-d. And if he does direct “The Hobbit”, he’s gonna get paid.
So what the heck is “The Hobbit”?
“The Hobbit” is a fantasy novel written by J. R. R. Tolkien (you know, the “Lord of the Rings” dude) in the tradition of the fairy tale. It was first published on September 21, 1937. While it also stands in its own right, it is often seen as a prelude to Tolkien’s monumental fantasy novel “The Lord of the Rings” (published in 1954 through 1955). - source
So basically they could put a monkey in the director’s chair and this thing would do insane box office. But hey, a monkey wouldn’t have been able to wrangle Bruce Campbell a nonsensical cameo in the film, but Sam Raimi could. I think that just about seals the deal, don’t you?
