Will Smith doesn’t want you to think that he’s a Scientologist, because apparently there are rumors that he’s converted, thanks to his association with Tom Cruise and his brainwashed — er, I mean, legally married wife, Katie Holmes. Says Smith’s publicist on the matter: “As Will Smith’s publicist I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that Will is not a Scientologist.” Wow. 100 percent? What, there’s such a thing as 90% Scientologist? 10%? Just wondering. It’s interesting that Scientology has become such a bad word now that publicists now have to come out to deny rumors regarding it. Thanks, Tom Cruise?
So why do people think Will Smith has become a Scientologist? Well, he did say this last year, while defending Tom Cruise and Scientology:
“I was introduced, [to] it by Tom and I’m a student of world religion,” Smith said. “I was raised in a Baptist household, I went to a Catholic school, but the ideas of the Bible are 98 percent the same ideas of Scientology, 98 percent the same ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism.”
“When I sit and I talk with Tom Cruise, he is one of the greatest spirits that I’ve ever met – someone who is committed to making the world better,” Will said. “You have people [that] are attacking and wanna fight that don’t know nothing — how you gonna not know nothing about Scientology and attack somebody? It’s dangerous and it’s ignorant.
“How can I condemn someone for what they believe and I believe that God was born from a pregnant virgin?” Will continued.
Well, okay, I don’t actually know how that led to the rumors that Smith had converted. Still strange that Smith had to send his publicists out to “correct” the rumors, though.
