Anyone who has read the second book in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series knows that book two’s battle of Blackwater is beyond epic. It’s one of the major clashes of the series, with Stannis Baratheon’s army and navy bearing down on the Lannisters with an all-out attack on King’s Landing in hopes of ending the war once and for all. He’s up against … a cowardly, douchebag teen King and his Imp uncle. Which begs the question: WHO YA GOT?
The ninth episode in “Game of Thrones” Season 2, titled, “Blackwater”, airs this Sunday. Check out two previews for the upcoming episode, along with a nifty poster.
Yes, it looks like they’ve scaled the battle way, way down, as to be expected given the TV budget. I just hope they at least keep some of the wildfire sequences. Also, having the entire battle taking place at night was probably to hide any deficiencies in the budget. Which begs the question: what exactly have they been spending the show’s second season budget on? As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been any expensive battles in the last 8 episodes, have there?
In any case, here’s me already looking forward to Season 3’s adaptation of “A Storm of Swords” and already dreading (if indeed it even happens) Season 4’s adaptation of the ponderous and at times unGodly awful “A Feast For Crows”.
