Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage Will Menace X-Men: Days of Future Past (UPDATED)

Peter Dinklage in GAME OF THRONES

Scroll to the bottom for two new updates to this story.

As he is wont to do, director Bryan Singer has announced the casting of “Game of Thrones” actor and all-around badass Peter Dinklage as the latest castmember of “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.

Singer neglects to tell us what role Dinklage is playing in the movie, but we do know that “X-Men: Days of Future Past” will be based on an ’80s “X-Men” comics story arc that involves time travel, but more importantly for 20th Century Fox, will facilitate the merging of Singer’s “X-Men” franchise with Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class”.

Off the top of my head, the only height-challenged Marvel comic book character I can even think of is Puck from Alpha Flight, the Canadian superhero group, but does Alpha Flight show up in the “Days of Future Past” storyline? Let me know, comic book fans.

Of course, there’s no law that says Dinklage has to play a character that he, well, physically resembles. (I’m trying very hard to be PC here.) The guy is a great actor, after all.

UPDATE

Variety reports that Dinklage will play the main villain in “DOFP”. The trade doesn’t know the name of the character, but does know that it will be the “main antagonist” of the superhero sequel.

UPDATE #2

According to MTV, an anonymous (but reliable, they say) source tells them that Dinklage will play a man name Bolivar Trask.

Trask, we’re told, is the creator of the Sentinels, the giant mutant-hunting robots that will menace the X-men in the dire future that our heroes are trying to prevent (this is where the film’s time-travel plot comes in). The character has a convoluted storyline and history (all Marvel comic book characters do, it’s the result of LOTS of writers tackling their own ideas over the decades) but the takeaway is that he’s the man behind the Sentinels, who are these guys:

Cool Stories From Zergnet

  • Juggernaut

Who can he possibly be playing? Puck is a logical choice but that character makes no sense with the storyline. Not to say that FOX doesn’t have a track record of tossing characters around.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

      PUCK!!!

  • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

If he plays Puck, he’ll be a fan favorite random character thrown in. If he plays someone else I’m all for that, he’s a great actor!!

  • Juggernaut

    Agreed

  • MyNameIsRen

MODOK! I don’t know. It’s the only other thing I can think of, aside from Puck.

    • Juggernaut

He waould have been a great choice for that role! I’ve heard that recomendation before and thought it would be a good idea. I believ that Ironman would have the rights to that character though.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

OH HELL YEAH!!! He’d actually make the character interesting.

    • Juggernaut

LOL! That was actually the first thing that my friend said when I asked who he thought Dinklage would end up playing.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

      LMAO!!!!

  • Juggernaut

What if he was cast as Apocalypse?!?!?!?! His face and voice and a CGI body would be awesome!!!

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Hmmss. WOuld be the first time something like that is done, man of small stature made to be big badass! I’m in.

      • Juggernaut

His head is actually normal size so it would just be a matter of putting his head onto a larger body. His features are damn near perfect for Apocalypse too IMO.
Something similar has already been done with Arnold Shwarzenegger’s likeness on Roland Kickinger’s body at the end of Terminator Salvation. That looked pretty good and that was way back in 2009! Imagine how well the CGI could be done now. By the time XM:DOFP is in production it will have been five years since then and technology has come so far already that they would be able to make it seamless.

        • Jonas

Or have him in a MoCap suit like Serkis in Planet of the Apes, or Willem Dafoe in John Carter.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

The Mo-cap wouldn’t work. His head is the normal size but the rest of him is not, and the movements would be very very difference. That said puting the dots on his face and have him doing the performance and then having someone else do the body performance and melding the two performances together would work.

          • Juggernaut

            Oh… uh, yeah… YES!!!

          • Jonas

I think the first hulk was like that, with Ang lee doing the body, and Eric Bana doing the face gestures.

Also, I just remembered that in Captain America they also used the Terminator effect to make Chris Evans smaller:

          • Juggernaut

            YES!!!

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Oh I know, and I remember how good that looked. He actually would be a great Apocalypse. Only other person I can see in Kevin Greivoux.

          • Juggernaut

He’d be a really cool choice.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

He’s got the voice, the build and the smarts. Also in both the Underworld films he’s been in he had presence.

          • Hedrick Curtis

All kinds of win on Greivoux as Apocalypse

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I thought so , and look it can still happen!!!!

  • Urizen

My guess: since time travel is involved he could be playing Bantam, who is the sidekick of time travelling villain Trevor Fitzroy.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

      That would work very well!!

    • Juggernaut

      Best guess yet!

  • Juggernaut

With this new info he has to be APOCALYPSE!!!!

  • W.A.S

He could be playing Mastermold if they go with the Sentinels. He could do the voice and like it was said earlyer he could have the facial cencors on. That being said, I would rather it be Apocalypse.

    • Juggernaut

Matermold is a good call too. I hadn’t thought of that. He could be the voice of the sentient control similar to H.A.L. in 2001.
They could even have the Sentinels themselves have his likliness and voice. That would be really cool too.

      • W.A.S

Yeah that would be a cool way to go. I hadn’t thought of making all the Sentinels have his likness, I like that idea.

        • Jonas

          It seems you win.

      • Lexavi80

I wouldn’t like him just dubbing a voice. I want him acting!

        I hope he’s Apocalypse.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I like the idea of him as Mater Mold, but not them having his likeness. They’re “Faceless” robots let them stay that way. It adds to the sense of dread, the way teh faces were like robotic skulls.

        • W.A.S

Didn’t think of it like that, good point.
