HBO’s monster hit “Game of Thrones” wraps up its fourth season with next week’s “The Children,” which ties up a bunch of major plotlines that have been churning now for four seasons as well as finally wrapping up “A Storm of Swords,” the third book in George R.R. Martin’s “Ice and Fire” book series. I’m not going to spoil anything here, but if the episode ends the way I expect it to, it will be quite the game changer for essentially every character involved in the show, including a couple of favorites.
Here’s a quick synopsis of next week’s episode:
Circumstances change after an unexpected arrival from north of the Wall. Daenerys must face harsh realities. Bran learns more about his destiny. Tyrion sees the truth about his situation.
I can’t help but wonder if this might not be the pinnacle of “Game of Thrones,” especially given that the upcoming season 5 (and likely season 6) will be adapting “A Feast for Crows” and “A Dance with Dragons,” books 4 and 5 in the series. “Crows” is generally considered to be the worst book in the series (not to mention unGodly dull), with “Dragons” coming a close second.
But hey, we can save that debate for 2015. For now, we’re going to get one hell of a send-off with episode 10 of “Game of Thrones,” especially coming off this week’s pretty well-done battle of the wall:
