Garth Ennis’ The Boys Headed to Big Screen

By Nix | February 21, 2008 (11:18 am)

Garth Ennis is one pretty screwed up dude, and anyone who has read anything he’s written knows that. One of his own creations is “The Boys”, about a group of government-sanctioned spooks who go around kicking in the heads of superheroes who become a menace to the population they are supposedly protecting. It’s a fun and bloody time had by all. Well, except the superheroes getting their heads kicked in, that is. And now, it’s coming to a big screen near you!

Created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the contemporary-set comicbook series follows a CIA squad, known informally as “the boys,” whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or eliminate them.

The comic was originally published by Wildstorm, but DC, which owned Wildstorm, dumped it because DC, well, just generally sucks unless you want colorful superheroes with names like “Lightning Boy” and other kiddie crap. The comic landed at Dynamite Entertainment, where it continues to publish.

Neal H. Moritz will be producing the movie for Columbia Pictures.

I don’t think D.C. “generally sucks,” although lately… And I’m sure they’ll screw up “The Boys” in pretty much the same way that they’ve done the “Wanted” movie.
