Gary Oldman is enlisting in the battle against the apes. The really, really smart apes led by Caesar in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, the sequel to Fox’s hit 2011 reboot of the “Planet of the Apes” franchise.
Oldman joins the previously cast Jason Clarke and Kodi-Smit McPhee, and while we have no idea who those two are playing, we do know that Oldman’s character will be Dreyfus, the man who will lead the human resistance in the aftermath of the apes’ rise to power.
Oldman has played plenty of good guys, but he’s also played plenty of bad ones, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his “leader” turns out to be one of those evil human types that Jason Clarke’s character has to battle or some such. Maybe a military fascist, etc. You gotta have at least one evil human, right?
Andy Serkis will return to mo-cap Caesar, with Reeves (“Let Me In”) directing. Fox has already set a May 23, 2014 release date for “Dawn”.
Oldman is coming off “The Dark Knight Rises”, and has the “Robocop” reboot in the wings.
