Geek Favorite Nathan Fillion Gets his Shot at the Green Lantern After All

When the “Green Lantern” movie was being cast, fanboys and geeks were all clamoring for Nathan Fillion to land the gig. (Okay, so maybe that’s not such a shock. Fanboys and geeks think Fillion can and should play any and ALL roles.) Someone even did a pretty impressive fan trailer with Fillion in the role. Well as we all know, Ryan Reynolds got the role, though you probably shouldn’t cry for Nathan Fillion — dude spends his weekdays making eyes with Stana Katic on ABC’s hit crime show “Castle”, after all.

But although he didn’t land the live-action “Green Lantern” movie, Nathan Fillion will still get to play the Emerald Knight — as the voice of Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern in D.C. Universe’s latest direct-to-DVD original movie, “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”, which is due out June 7 from Warner Bros. Animation.

Emerald Knights is a series of vignettes about the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. Fillion plays Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of Earth’s space sector, who mentors Arisia, a new recruit played by Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss. “I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator,” Fillion says. “Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.”

Filling out the cast are Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies), Kelly Hu (Hawaii Five-0, The Vampire Diaries), actor/spoken-word artist Henry Rollins and ex-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

Via TVGuide, here’s your first look at Fillion in the studio doing the voice of Jordan for the upcoming movie.

NICE! This is along the lines of Thomas Jane wanting to play Jonah Hex then losing the part to Brolin (thank god cause that woulda been a stain on his career), and then getting to voice him in the animated short. I’m gload Fillion will get to voice the part (hoping he tries to tam the accent, cause I don’t see Hal with one). I also thought David Boreanaz (“Bones,” “Angel”) would’ve made a very good Hal Jordan, and he got to play the part pretty well in “Justice League: The New Frontier” animated film.

I’m gonna go on record as saying Jason Isaacs (who did awesome as Ra’s Al Ghul in “Under The Read Hood”) is voicing Sinestro, Henry Rollins is voicing Killowog, and I have no idea who Piper could be playing (Guy gardner maybe, but doubt it).
The thing is I thought these vignettes were taking place before the film, but I guess I was wrong, and some take place before and some after. This is supposed to be in the same vein as “Gotham Knights” hence the similar names.

the green lantern fan film trailer is actually more thrilling than the one DC/WB put out with ryan reynolds i mean it will be good but that fan trailer is more what i wanted to see

Hey! A GL movie that I’m actually exited for! @Dedpool- Is this going to be animated by the same group as Gotham Knights? If so that would be cool. I hope to see some other GL baddies like Sonar, Dr. Polaris, Legion and Parallax. That would be sweet!

Yes it will. And if we see any GL villains they will be extraterrestrial. I believe the whole thing is spaced based. And Parralax is in the live action film, so he won’t be in it.

I can’t believe I haven’t seen, or at least don’t remember seeing that fan made trailer…that’s friggin awesome! I like Fillion a lot, glad he’s got at least some sort of Green Lantern part.
