When the “Green Lantern” movie was being cast, fanboys and geeks were all clamoring for Nathan Fillion to land the gig. (Okay, so maybe that’s not such a shock. Fanboys and geeks think Fillion can and should play any and ALL roles.) Someone even did a pretty impressive fan trailer with Fillion in the role. Well as we all know, Ryan Reynolds got the role, though you probably shouldn’t cry for Nathan Fillion — dude spends his weekdays making eyes with Stana Katic on ABC’s hit crime show “Castle”, after all.
But although he didn’t land the live-action “Green Lantern” movie, Nathan Fillion will still get to play the Emerald Knight — as the voice of Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern in D.C. Universe’s latest direct-to-DVD original movie, “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”, which is due out June 7 from Warner Bros. Animation.
Emerald Knights is a series of vignettes about the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. Fillion plays Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of Earth’s space sector, who mentors Arisia, a new recruit played by Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss. “I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator,” Fillion says. “Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.”
Filling out the cast are Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies), Kelly Hu (Hawaii Five-0, The Vampire Diaries), actor/spoken-word artist Henry Rollins and ex-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.
Via TVGuide, here’s your first look at Fillion in the studio doing the voice of Jordan for the upcoming movie.
