Looks like Gemma Arterton is getting back into the big-budget Hollywood action game. After a brief detour to do some British fare, the lovely lass has signed on to star in “Dead Snow” director Tommy Wirkola’s “re-imagining” of the Hansel and Gretel tale for Paramount.
Set 15 years after the titular siblings had their run-in with the witch in the gingerbread house, the movie now finds Hansel (to be played by Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) as adults who also moonlights as fearsome witch hunters.
Sounds like one hell of a potentially fun movie. Renner is currently blowing up, and Arterton has already done her share of Hollywood fantasy blockbusters, counting “Clash of the Titans” and “The Prince of Persia”. I liked her in both movies, and let’s face it, this is “money making time” for her. She knows these films aren’t works of art, and it’s that kind of attitude that should make “Hansel and Gretel” a blast. Potentially, that is.
D.W. Harper is scripting the movie for Wirkola, with Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick producing through their Gary Sanchez Productions.
