Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel May be Kane and Lynch (or They May Not)

Kane and Lynch Game Image

“Kane and Lynch” is a 2007 videogame that was supposed to be a movie about, oh, two or so years ago, with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx set to star, and Simon Crane set to direct.

That, er, didn’t quite work out. But you can still see the mock up poster the producers put out. It was really close to happening … until it wasn’t happening anymore. Good thing hiring a starving artist to slap together a poster is cheap, huh?

Kane and Lynch Movie PosterFlash-forward to 2013, and Gerard Butler is now said to be in talks for the role of Kane, while Nu Image/Millennium Films would very much like Vin Diesel to play Lynch.

Based on the game of the same name by IO Interactive and Eidos Interactive, “Kane and Lynch” would find Butler playing Kane, “a death row inmate who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch, is sprung from prison to retrieve a stolen fortune. Kane travels to Los Angeles, Japan and Cuba, with Lynch acting as the team’s watchdog in order to save his wife and daughter.”

The game spawned a sequel in 2011 called “Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days”. So yes, franchise possibilities here.

Vin Diesel’s involvement seems to be dubious, as the guy has a ton of stuff coming up, and I’m not sure if he wants to add another franchise to his plate. After all, those “Fast and Furious” movies don’t make themselves, ya know. (Even though, let’s face it, they probably could. They’re not exactly, you know, art.)

F. Gary Gray, who directed Butler in 2009′s “Law Abiding Citizen”, is currently attached to direct “Kane and Lynch”, and if Butler signs and they find someone to play Lynch, you could very well see this movie by 2014. Or, er, not.
