(This story contains SPOILERS about the plot of “Valkyrie”, in particular its ending, so don’t read on unless you want to know) Tom Cruise’s belief in Scientology has gotten the filming of “Valkyrie” into something of a pickle over in Germany, where the country has barred the filmmakers from filming at German military sites because its star Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, the Defense Ministry said on Monday. The sticking point is Cruise’s Scientology beliefs, and the fact that Germany doesn’t recognize it as a viable religion, and refers to it as a “cult” only interested in making money off its members.
Cruise and company had no comments. I’m sure that, if this bar continues, they’ll just build the whole bloody thing and shoot it in L.A. or something. Location barring has never stopped Hollywood before.
But the bigger issue is that a lot of people are having problems with the movie, and not because of THE MOVIE itself, but because of Tom Cruise being involved in it. It was just on Sunday that I reported about another person who had problems with Cruise. Again, all this blatant hatred of Cruise and his beliefs are simply astounding. What’s even more incredible is just how easily everyone is accepting it.
Here’s more about “Valkyrie” and the plot (which, again, contains SPOILERS):
[Cruise] has been cast as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the Nazi dictator in July 1944 with a bomb hidden in a briefcase.
Stauffenberg had been deeply opposed to the Nazis’ treatment of the Jews and planted a briefcase bomb under a table near Hitler in his “Wolf’s Lair” headquarters on July 20, 1944. The bomb went off but only wounded the Fuehrer.
So basically, they tried to kill him, but failed, and then they all got executed. There’s your whole movie right there, folks.
