Dwayne Johnson’s “Hercules” (not to be mistaken with Kellen Lutz’s “Hercules 3D”), has been tweeting lots of pictures from the set in recent weeks, but they have been rather unimpressive pics, so I didn’t bother posting them. (Look, either Tweet big or go home, know what I mean?) This latest tweet from the man formerly known as The Rock is a bit better. It shows him on set in full costume. Or, at least, him from the back.
(By the way, I think he’s still officially The Rock, since he uses it in his Twitter handle. I’m so confused.)
The film will be based on the comic book “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, and goes something like this:
Fourteen hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules was the powerful son of the god king Zeus, for this he received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labours and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and presence of death. These men and women never question where they go to fight or why or whom, just how much they will be paid. Now the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. It is time for this bunch of lost souls to finally have their eyes opened to how far they have fallen when they must train an army to become as ruthless and blood thirsty as their reputation has become.
Not sure if the movie by Brett Ratner is going to stay faithful to the comics, but that’s the general gist of the film anyway.
“Hercules”, which may or may not eventually be called “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, will co-star Ian McShane, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Rufus Sewell, Rebecca Ferguson, Joe Anderson , and flexes its muscle in theaters next year, July 25, 2014.
