The boys and gals at Empire Magazine have five new covers featuring characters from Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” for you today. For those of you who still go to newsstands and buys magazines and newspapers and whatnot, anyway. (Though I hear nowadays you can get them delivered? Say what? You crazy kids and your newfangled delivery methods!)
You can check out all five, including four character versions featuring Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield, and Bard the Bowman who is, appropriately enough, shown with his bow. The fifth cover is of the entire gang. Well, the four on the covers, anyway. The gang is like a billion characters or something in this movie.
Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug.
Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott, and Aidan Turner.
