Danai Gurira in THE WALKING DEAD - Episode 3.01 - Seed

Almost in time for Halloween (and “The Walking Dead” Season 3 premiere), get to know more about the show’s new castmember, the highly anticipated debut of Danai Gurira’s Michonne, a katana-swinging survivor who has mastered the bladed weapon and will eventually become a very valuable member of Rick’s group of desperate survivors. When we first saw her, Michonne (played by a stunt double) was walking around the land of the dead with two leashed zombies at her side. Now that’s confidence!

Danai Gurira, of course, is playing the popular comic book character, and here she is talking about the month of training with the katana for the role. I don’t think I ever read the part of the comic book that describes Michonne’s history, so did she really learn the sword all by herself after the dead started to rise? As in, a self-taught gal, as it were? Damn, that’s pretty impressive.

And a bit of a reach, I guess, but then again, so is the zombie apocalypse, am I right? Either go with it or don’t is the only way to go here, kids. And if you’re already a fan of the show, I think the answer is obvious.

Season 3 of “The Walking Dead” shambles back onto the airwaves October 14th on AMC.

Miyamoto Musashi, considered one of the greatest Swordsman in Japanese History was self taught. Think about it this way, when the first sword was forged a swordmaster wasn’t forged with it, someone had to make up the moves and fighting styles which evolved. But Michonne isn’t fighting per se she is hacking creatures with basic motor skills. Unless shown who knows how she could hold her own against another trained swordsman.
