Ghostbusters 3 Rumor: Will Ivan Reitman Rediscover His Inner Ghostbuster?

According to Bloody Disgusting, Ivan Reitman has the opportunity to direct Ghostbusters 3 but hasn’t decided whether or not to take the job. Reitman, who hasn’t directed a film since My Super Ex-Girlfriend in 2006 and now spends his time producing, also directed the first two Ghostbuster films. Reitman can be hit or miss – Ghostbusters was a comic revelation, but Ghostbusters II was a precipitous fall. However, he still has the talent to see it through.

Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement (in various interviews on the web).
There were rumors that the movie would include a younger ghostbusting cast for a new generation, with the older cast working in a mentor capacity, which is intriguing. But why not also opt for a younger director? I hear that Ivan Reitman has a son who’s also a director… Maybe I’m being too fanciful, but I think that Jason Reitman would be great.

Wasn’t the videogame based on the first Ghostbusters? I’m out of the loop here.
Jason Reitman does a lot of drama with his comedies, but I can see him doing pure comedy too.
It’s the direcet sequel and what got the original cast really into the idea of doing another film. The story of the game is half homage/rehash and half new stuff but building on what has come before. All the characters have their personalities and some of there back stories are even mentioned (Winston is now Dr. Zeddemore after completinghis doctorate in Egyptology I beleive, mentioned in Library level). Jason Reitman would be perfect and I like the idea of them becoming menotrs to a new generation. I also like the idea of adding some females to the next group. Especially if it’s Alysa Milano or Eliza Dushku.
No it’s the sequel to the two movies !
