G.I. Joe Enlists Sienna Miller as The Baroness

After all the speculation about Jason Statham, Mark Wahlberg, and a host of other names playing big parts in the upcoming “G.I. Joe” movie, who would have thunk that it’d be British lass Sienna Miller who is the first actor to officially join the cast? Well it’s true. Variety says that the actress will be playing the film’s female lead, described as “a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.” Since my G.I. Joe knowledge all revolves around, and is limited to how cool Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes looks, and gosh, it sure would be cool if the movie revolved around them duking it out, I can only surmise that Miller will be playing the Cobra villain The Baroness, given the description of the character.

Variety also goes on to describe the film’s plot, about the movie being “set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer.”

Parts of the above have actually been debunked by HASBRO earlier this month:

This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

Now that Sienna Miller is announced, I’m sure the casting for the men — or as it were, the Joes — will be announced very soon.

The live-action “G.I. Joe” movie is moving forward with Stephen Sommers of “The Mummy” fame directing.
