God bless Rob Liefeld. Without his out-of-control hormones during the ’90s, we wouldn’t have all those comic books starring scantily clad women with huge hooters wielding swords and guns and what-have-you. Also, without Rob Liefeld, we also wouldn’t have ridiculously muscled guys with tiny ankles. The man is a legend.
One of Liefeld’s earlier creation was Avengelyne, “a fallen angel cast to Earth” whose mission was “to find and protect “the one,” a person who holds the key to saving mankind from demons and other monsters.” Did I mention she’s very scantily clad, has a big rack, and carries swords?
Just in time for Comic Con 2013, Liefeld has announced that he is teaming up with “Haywire” star Gina Carano (last seen chasing Vin Diesel and company alongside The Rock in “Fast and Furious 6”) for a live-action take on “Avengelyne”, with Carano playing the main character. Obviously you’re looking at a very different, er, version of Avengelyne here, as I don’t think anyone’s ever going to mistaken former MMA fighter turned actor Carano for the character pictured above.
The film, we’re told, will be in the vein of the popular “Underworld” movies starring Kate Beckinsale.
Scott Karp and Brooklyn Weaver will be selling the package to potential studios, though if this is like any of Liefeld’s other creations, chances of it actually getting made into a movie is pretty slim. You’re not still holding your breath for a “Youngblood” movie, too, are you?
