As if Universal’s “The Fast and Furious 6” wasn’t already crowded enough with long-time franchise stars, newcomers, and dead castmembers that refuses to stay dead, you can now add “Haywire” star Gina Carano, the MMA fighter turned sorta-actor to the film’s musclebound cast.
Carano, who has spent time as an American Gladiator and in the MMA ring beating up lesser girls, will be playing a member of Luke Hobbs’ fugitive retrieval team. As you’ll recall, Hobbs was played by Dwayne Johnson, whose team was essentially wiped out in the last movie, “Fast Five”. I guess that means he needs new blood to fill out his fugitive-huntin’ ranks. Carano would certainly quality. God knows she’s got the brawn for the gig.
Justin Lin will return to direct parts 6 and part 7, expected to be shot back-to-back, or close enough. Franchise stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will reprise their roles, along with Jordana Brewster and, most likely, some of the regulars from the previous films. Though if Lin and company are smart, they’ll jettison everyone but the main core, especially given how Hobbs/Johnson is now a new regular, and they’re bringing back yet another regular thought dead. Seriously, there is more speaking parts in this movie than the “Ocean’s” films.
Besides the sixth “Fast and Furious” movie, Carano’s also got “In the Blood” waiting in the wings, but she’s expected to do “Furious” first before tackling that film, a sort of reverse-“Taken”.
