Wong Kar Wai’s “The Grandmaster” will finally be getting its Stateside bow later next month, but until then, the Weinstein Company have released a new U.S. trailer for the film. They’re still really selling the Bruce Lee angle, of course, and what’s not to love about the last shot featuring Zhang Ziyi battling it out on a train platform? Lots of crazy fighting in inclement weather here, too, from the looks of the trailer, all of it cinematically impressive looking. But hey, that’s why they call it martial arts, am I right?
It sure looks damn good, though. Not just visually, but the action as well. But hey, don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself, check it outers.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Wong Kar Wai, THE GRANDMASTER is an epic action feature inspired by the life and times of the legendary kung fu master, Ip Man. The story spans the tumultuous Republican era that followed the fall of China’s last dynasty, a time of chaos, division and war that was also the golden age of Chinese martial arts.
Starring Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang, Chang Chen, Cung Le, Zhao Benshan, Xiao Shenyang, and Song Hye Kyo.
Smacking U.S. audiences with a firm backhand this August 23rd.
