Grayskull aka He-man aka Masters of the Universe Gets New Writer

The last time we heard about Warner Bros.’ live-action take on He-Man Masters of the Universe, it was the announcement that John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) had been hired to direct. The script for the movie, now apparently just going by the title “Grayskull”, has gone through a few screenwriters, including go-to comic book guy Justin Marks, and it’s now landed in the lap of newcomer Evan Daugherty, whose only credit is an unproduced screenplay called “Shrapnel”. So, er, I guess that isn’t really a credit, since it’s unproduced and all. Anyways.

Says THR about the WB’s take on the movie:

Warners sees the big-screen version as a gritty fantasy and reimagines Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.

No wonder they’re changing the title to “Grayskull”. That description doesn’t sound like a He-Man movie at all. Then again, a He-Man movie ala the cartoons would be pretty silly, almost as silly as that live-action Dolph Lundgren version.

Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures are producing.
