Wait, Iron Man teams up with The Punisher to help expose a worldwide conspiracy? I’m pretty sure that’s never happened in the comic books in all the times I was reading The Punisher. (I was never much of an Iron Man fan, sorry, Shellhead.) These two guys just don’t seem to have much in common — one’s high-tech, the other’s low-tech. So it’ll be interesting to see the kind of damage they can dish out in Hiroshi Hamazaki’s “Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore”, a new direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray movie from Marvel and, as you can probably tell by the screenshots and look of the trailer, their Japanese partners at Madhouse Animation
The official synopsis for the film below is a tad SPOILER-Y, so feel free to skip it.
Billionaire Tony Stark, in his Iron Man armor, prevents an attack from a mysterious new foe, but innocent bystanders are killed, including his best friend War Machine, Lt. Colonel James Rhodes. Detained for questioning by S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man escapes, determined to find the mastermind behind the attack. Pursued by Black Widow and Hawkeye, Iron Man enlists the help of the ruthless vigilante The Punisher. But can the Armored Avenger handle what he finds when he catches the person responsible and is forced to face his deadliest weapon, a biotechnology called Technovore that could wipe out all life on the planet?
Featuring Matthew Mercer as Iron Man and Daryl Dixon himself, Norman Reedus as The Punisher.
Iron Man and friends fight onto DVD and Blu-ray April 16, 2013.
