Green Arrow Gets Pilot Order from the CW

Green Arrow Comic BookGreen Arrow is making a comeback on TV as … “Arrow”.

(Why the change? No idea, but I suppose it sounds cooler than “Green Arrow”, which possibly might confuse viewers with Warner’s ill-received “Green Lantern” movie. I know, it’s a bit of a stretch, but this is Hollywood, after all, where they changed the title of “John Carter of Mars” because, apparently, girls don’t like sci-fi movies, especially ones set on Mars.)

In any case, it sounds like “Arrow”, while re-using the character from the CW’s “Smallville” TV show, won’t be re-using the same character as the one that appeared alongside Superman. Instead, “Arrow” will feature a new, “modern retelling” of the Green Arrow, “a wealthy playboy by day who secretly saves the city by night using his enhanced arrows.”

Yeah, still basically the same character, but, you know, kinda different. But as previously reported, fans of “Smallville’s” Justin Hartley probably shouldn’t hold their breath that he’ll suit back up as the Arrow. I’m guessing they might be going a bit older for the hourlong drama. Of course, I could be wrong. Then again, this is the CW, so “older” may mean “mid-20s”.

Furthering that whole Green Arrow/Green Lantern tie-in, “Arrow” will be developed and produced by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, two writers on the “Green Lantern” movie.

Maybe they can get a cameo from the other Green dude…

Out of all the awesome superheroes out there they go with “arrow”…… I don’t think the CW has ever made a good quality tv show…..ever…….

Again, play up the similarities and the differences to Batman (he’s a true playboy, he has a sense of humor even in costume, he’s all about the little guy, he’s a good fighter, a decent detective and he’s a vigilante) and make him truly badass and more like his animated counter part in the “Showcase Short” and “Justice League Unlimited” and even his current DCnU version and the show could be pretty cool.
