(Why the change? No idea, but I suppose it sounds cooler than “Green Arrow”, which possibly might confuse viewers with Warner’s ill-received “Green Lantern” movie. I know, it’s a bit of a stretch, but this is Hollywood, after all, where they changed the title of “John Carter of Mars” because, apparently, girls don’t like sci-fi movies, especially ones set on Mars.)
In any case, it sounds like “Arrow”, while re-using the character from the CW’s “Smallville” TV show, won’t be re-using the same character as the one that appeared alongside Superman. Instead, “Arrow” will feature a new, “modern retelling” of the Green Arrow, “a wealthy playboy by day who secretly saves the city by night using his enhanced arrows.”
Yeah, still basically the same character, but, you know, kinda different. But as previously reported, fans of “Smallville’s” Justin Hartley probably shouldn’t hold their breath that he’ll suit back up as the Arrow. I’m guessing they might be going a bit older for the hourlong drama. Of course, I could be wrong. Then again, this is the CW, so “older” may mean “mid-20s”.
Furthering that whole Green Arrow/Green Lantern tie-in, “Arrow” will be developed and produced by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, two writers on the “Green Lantern” movie.
Maybe they can get a cameo from the other Green dude…
