Green Hornet Gets a Villainous Basterd

Looks like the boys at the “Green Hornet” compound actually traded up: days after losing Nicolas Cage, the film landed its villain replacement in “Inglourious Basterds” villain Christoph Waltz. So yes, it appears Waltz will continue playing bad guys for a while, which is an odd career choice considering that post-”Basterds” the Austrian actor has been in high demand, with Hollywood basically bowing to his greatness, and one would assume he could do any movie he wanted. So why keep playing a villain, and in a comic book movie at that? Weird choice, but he’s Austrian, so there you have it.

THR reports that Waltz will be taking over the film’s main bad guy role, which originally went to Cage before the actor jumped ship after negotiations for the part fell through. Waltz joins a cast that includes stars Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet, Cameron Diaz as his love interest, and Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou as the Green Hornet’s martial artist sidekick, Kato.

Kooky director extraordinaire Michel Gondry is directing the movie, which is scheduled for a December 2010 release release. The film is currently shooting.

This Green Hornet. Would he happen to be Jewish, by any chance?
