How is it that I haven’t been covering David Ayer’s “End of Watch”? Holy crap. This thing looks insane. I’m not a fan of the First Person Shooter camera gag (or the odd angle that points up at Jake Gyllenhaal crotch in the car, for that matter), but the rest of the film just looks utterly fantastic. If the name Ayer sounds familiar, he’s the writer of “Training Day”, “Harsh Times”, and “Street Kings”. Basically, dude loves to make movies about the LAPD, though I don’t think he’s ever done something like this before. Check out your first trailer for “End of Watch”.
A powerful story of family, friendship, love, honor and courage, End Of Watch stars Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as young Los Angeles police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds entirely through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s darkest, most violent corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, America Ferrera, and Cody Horn.
The watch ends in a hail of bullets September 28, 2012.
