I love the title of Peter Jackson’s second Hobbit movie, “The Desolation of Smaug”. The name of the dragon, Smaug, is wacky enough, but then you tack on “the desolation of”, and it’s like something from the grand ye ol days. You know, ancient stuff, which I guess makes sense given the film’s ancient Middle Earth setting. It just makes SENSE for some reason. Desolation. Desolation!
Ahem. Check out some great looking cover arts for some merchandise from the upcoming film, due out next year, December 13, 2014.
“Smaug” and his desolation continues the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and his Dwarf allies, picking up where “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” left off, as the troop seek out the dragon and his pot’o’gold, while battling all manner of wicked (and no doubt, ugly as sin) things along the way. Why the bad guys always gotta be so ugly?
The film will star “Sherlock” BFFs Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch (as the voice of Smaug), along with Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, Luke Evans, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Manu Bennett, Lee Pace, Aidan Turner, Christopher Lee and Andy Serkis as Gollum.
