POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW
It seems like a week doesn’t go by that someone on some site doesn’t claim to know who everyone in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is playing. Especially the villains. We all know who the good guys are playing, but the villains, on the other hand, are a big ol bag of mystery.
The biggest unknown surrounds the characters that will be played by Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace, and Karen Gillan. So who are they playing exactly?
With the film now commencing production in England, the site Den of Geeks is the latest to claim to have inside information on the trio’s character identities.
According to the site, Del Toro (who I personally thought would be great as Thanos), will apparently be playing The Collector (pictured below), described as “one of the oldest characters in Marvel’s universe, given that he dates back billions of years, protecting the universe in the way he sees fit”.
Pace, meanwhile, will play Ronan The Accuser (pictured below), a member of the Kree who has “a fair number of superhuman powers, and while originally a villain, he has shown a more heroic side, too”.
And finally, Gillan is set to play Nebula (pictured below), “a villain and space pirate, who claimed to be the granddaughter of Thanos.”
I don’t know who any of these people are, though I seem to recall that Nebula showed up in the Thanos-heavy “Infinity Gauntlets” books, and like most aliens in the “Guardians of the Galaxy”, has a different color skin — in this case, blue.
Of course, lots of people and sites have claimed to know the identity of the villains in “Guardians of the Galaxy” before. When it comes to “Guardians” (or heck, all of Marvel’s movies), taking this news with a grain of salt is the only way to go.
What we do know for sure? Chris Pratt, who will be playing the film’s human lead, is looking pretty ripped for the movie (apparently all it took to get that bod was no beer for 6 months? That all?):
“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in 2014.
