It’s not a good idea to get on Guy Pearce’s bad side if this first image from David Michod’s follow-up to “Animal Kingdom”, the crime thriller “The Rover” is any indication. Check out Pearce making his point (at the end of a gun, natch) to “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson.
As mentioned, “The Rover” is Michod’s second film after his critically acclaim debut “Animal Kingdom”. That film put essentially everyone who was involved with it on the map, including stars Joel Edgerton, Jacki Weaver, and Sullivan Stapleton. “The Rover” re-teams Michod with his “Animal Kingdom” star Guy Pearce, and features co-writing credit by Joel Edgerton.
The Rover is set in the Australian desert, in a dangerous and damaged near future.
Eric (Pearce) has left everything, everyone and every semblance of human kindness behind him when a gang of desperate criminals steals his last possession. Eric sets off on a ruthless mission to track them down, forced along the way to enlist the help of Rey (Pattinson), the naïve and injured junior member of the gang who was left behind in the chaos of the gang’s most recent robbery.
“The Rover” also c-stars Scoot McNairy (of “Monsters” and “Killing Them Softly” fame). If we’re lucky “The Rover” will roll into theaters this year. If not, then it’s 2014.
