When Virgin Comics launched their “Director’s Cut” comic book line a few years ago, the idea was to get a bunch of well-known directors like Guy Ritchie and John Woo together, make a comic book based on their ideas (but give art and writing reins to someone else), and then see who in Hollywood comes calling to turn the property into a movie. It appears as if Guy Ritchie has beaten John Woo to the punch, with Variety reporting that Warner Bros. and Joel Silver will adapt his comic, “The Gamekeeper” into a movie of the same name.
Project revolves around the reclusive caretaker of a Scottish estate with infinite knowledge of the behaviors of all animal species. When the alleged killer of his son surfaces, the caretaker finds that Europe’s urban jungle is not so unlike that of the natural landscape to which he’s accustomed.
I’ve gotten back into comics in recent years, but I’ve never read “The Gamekeeper”, although I have read John Woo’s “Seven Brothers”, and would think it would make a better movie.
But in any case, look for Ritchie to do “The Gamekeeper” after he finishes up “RocknRolla”.
