Haley as Sinestro? That’s News to Green Lantern Director

Well, this is interesting and, in my opinion, better news — according to “Green Lantern” director Martin Campbell, the persistent rumors of “Watchmen’s” Jackie Earle Haley playing Sinestro is not correct. As in, not in the least. According to Campbell, who should know since, well, he’s directing the thing, the man he wants, and who is currently in talks for the role is Mark Strong, who is making quite the fabulous living playing bad guys in films like “Sherlock Holmes” and the upcoming “Kick Ass”. He’s also in Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood”, no doubt as a scoundrel.

Campbell tells MTV:

“In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro. He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.”

Look, I’m a fan of Haley as much as the next guy, but fanboys can be so persistently idiotic sometimes, especially when they cotton to someone they want that guy to play every role in existence, even if he’s not right for it in the least. I call it the Nathan Fillion Syndrome.

Campbell also confirms that comic fan fave Kilowog, along with Tomar-Re will also be making appearances in “Green Lantern”. The epic comic book movie is set to star Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the human turned intergalactic space cop, with Blake Lively as his love interest. Peter Sarsgaard was recently announced as one of the film’s villains.
