Harry Potter + Twilight = House of Night?

Harry Potter isn’t the only kid who developed abilities as a wee lad and had to be sent off to some faraway school to hone his skills. Zoey Redbird had to go through the same thing when she developed vampiric abilities at puberty. Yes, that’s right, it’s the female vampire equivalent of Harry Potter, minus the weird accents and flying around on brooms and freaky, evil looking British kids which, come on, are just bloody creepy. Hollywood has been looking for another Harry Potter ever since Harry Potter got to be Harry Potter, with pretty much every would-be franchise falling by the wayside except for the “Chronicles of Narnia” series. The latest stab at Potter cash is a series of young adult novels about teen vampires called “House of Night”, currently in its fourth volume of a planned nine volumes. No doubt, the current out-of-this-world popularity of Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” books and upcoming movies had something to do with it, too.
Variety has your sordid cash grab news:
“House of Night” takes the vampire myth in a “Harry Potter”-esque direction. In the series, “vampyres” are accepted in society; they possess a genetic anomaly that manifests itself in some people at puberty. Vampyres are “marked” and sent to the House of Night, a school that offers training necessary to become an adult vampyre.
Protag is Zoey Redbird, whose ordinary life is thrown into disarray when she becomes a vampyre and must change schools and enter a brand new world.
“P.C. and Kristin Cast created a thrilling world that juxtaposes teen drama with supernatural suspense, using the transition from human to vampire as a metaphor for the transition from adolescence to adulthood,” Birnbaum said.
Translation: “Yeah, we’re trying to cash in on Harry Potter and Twilight, what of it? Kids are suckers!”
Of course, don’t tell them that nothing has stuck since Potter except for the aforementioned “Narnia” franchise, and even that isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. Then again, there’s the upcoming “Twilight” books, which are destined to become bigger than Potter in the States. Add a dash of Potter, a dash of Twilight, and you get “House of Night”. CHA-CHING? The producers certainly hope so.

i’ve read all the house of night books that are out so far. i really like them. i think it would be really awsome to see on big screen. i’m also a twilight and harry potter fan. so i see no problem in watching a new kind of vampire series. especially when the girl is more of the hero. and not having a vampire save her.
I agree with you on that. It would be cool to see a girl on big screen being the hero. Besides i want to see Zoey and all the characters in theatres. I read all the books on the House of Night Series too. They were really good. I loved them all. I am also a Harry Potter and Twilight fan as well. That means you meant someone who is in common with you. Yes your right!!! No guy has to really save Zoey all the time, because she is the heroine.
i totally agree they are all awesom and it would be great for them to come out with a movie for them all or if she adds on to hunted cuz it was so damn good i want to see zoey change and keep her life going and see what happens to erik and heath… that would be totally awesom

I absolutely agree. I just finished Tempted and am not sure I can wait until May to find out what happens next. I am also a fan of Harry Potter and the Twilight books. I do feel that I am coming from a different angle, though, because I have been a fan of this kind of book since Anne Rice which dates back waaaay before Twilight and Harry Potter. The HON books are good, but very different. People just have to remeber to be open minded and give them a chance. I didn’t like the idea of vampires sparking before I read Twilight, but it proved not to matter.

I will admit I am a huge fan of the Twilight, Harry Potter and House of Night series but I just don’t wanna see the House of Night series ruined like they did with the Twilight movie.It gives the book (as well as the fans) a bad rep. I remember seeing Twilight with my boyfriend and him leaning over and saying “your crazy about THIS ?”.The movie had poor directing and even worse effects which i thought hurt the fan base. For example, look what happened to the Harry Potter movies. People went and saw the movies and then wanted to know more about it so they went and bought the books. That was the complete opposite with Twilight…

I disagree. I had no desire to read the Twlight books until I watched the movie. My only concern is that books are usually better than the movies and I really like the HON books. If they are put on the big screen, I hope they stay true to the books.

They can drink human blood, but they don’t because they don’t want to be monsters, so they drink animal blood instead. Why in the world do you think Edward can’t stand Bella sweet smell when he first met her??? Well because he wanted to drink her blood, but does not. GET IT!!! The Cullen Family have cold skin, Speed, strength, and can sparkle in sunlight which reveal themselves as vampires. That’s why they don’t go into sunlight, so people won’t find out their different. look, i read all the twilight, harry potter, and house of night, and twilight is completley homosexual.
the characters are half sissies, but the writer is a woose for avoiding any action whatsoever in breaking dawn!
harry potter was interesting, butlacked some really basic information, but the final book (actually the final fight) made up for it.
House of night is completely awesome! it has everything twilight avoided, harry had that was awesome, and cut out all the crap.

Ummm…I’ve read both the House of Night Series and the Twilight series. I like both and I like the two different takes on vampires. I’ve read the responses on this site and I really hope that the negative remarks towards the Cullen characters aren’t based off the movie. Yes, the Cullens are lame in movie version, but in the book the characters have so much more depth and personality. Without all that crappy acting getting in the way, the story is actually good.
i love harry potter, twilight, and the house of night series. twilight and HON both give a different view of the standard dracula-esque vampires. i’d DIE if they made HON into movies, i’d see the first viewing of all of them!!

Actually the books are really really good and it is very refreshing that a female is the heroic in the series. I know that Bella was the hero at the end of the twilight series but Zoey Redbird is the hero throughout this series. that’s what beats a sparkling vampire

i love Zoey but she doesn’t go through half the stuff harry does, i mean come on someone tried to kill harry when he was a baby! He witnesses his godfather being killed plus dumbledore and has no parents and to top all of that off he has faces three headed dogs, Voldemort, a Basilisk, Death Eaters, A Dragon and wow lol the list goes on! lol and worse than that he had to live with the dursleys!

I think the House of Night series are really good. I’ve read all the books that are out so far and I like the fact that Zoey doesn’t need a hero because she is the heroine of the series. And even though nothing can compare to Twilight the House of Night series have a different view on vampires which I think is really awesome, because is a new concept.

Actually I really enjoyed reading the house of night. I cant wait for the next book to come out. The books arent anything like twilight or harry potter ive read all three series.
Okay I have read them both Twilight is good in its own right its a nice romance and ok there could have been better sex scenes and for all of you who are bitter they didnt fight in the end im pretty sure stephany wouldnt have been able to live if anyone of the cullens died i know i would have bawled my eyes out and if u research the myth of vamps u can see most are lies so not all vamps die in sunlight. before you go all Rabid Twilight fan-person on me, don’t condem this series just because they do not sparkle (Which I still do not understand where on earth she got that one from). These books follow the original myths that follow Vampyre myths that have been developed since ancient greek. The house of night serise is in depth, connetable characters and a well writen book (for a teen novel). And while Twilight does have it’s own good parts, these books show a different side of the idea of a protagonist Vampire, one that is eaiser to follow and aspect than the usual hunky, yet stonic teenage hero that just happens to suck animal blood

Twilight SUCKED whats so special about a vampire that sparkles? the fact that he sparkled just made3 him seem like a fag no offense just i don’t think the author wanted him to seem like one honestly i like the basic idea of vampires but nothing bad-ass is supposed to sparkle besides cars and motorcycles even if he can beat most everybody i still don’t like these books.
OKAY! Enough with the fightings! I personally think that S.Meyer did it to increase the similarities between Edward and a diamond/rock, so that when he gives her the charm for her bracelet in the future, it represents him more.
Wow. Someone who DOESN’T like the books?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Did you read the ENTIRE book? Because most Twilight fans will agree that the book doesn’t pick up until about 350 pages in, but then you’re hooked.

I completely loved House of Night! I think they should cast Adam Gregory (90210) as Eric Night. Check it. He is just like him!! (or at least how I imagined him). Of course TWILIGHT RULEEEES, there’s nothing like Edward Cullen, sorry. He is an obsession. And Jacob Black isn’t bad either… Harry Potter is also great, so if this movie will be a mix, more reason to watch it!

OH man. I just read thre first three HON books and this is ridiculous. A mark on her forehead?? Leaving behind a hateful family? A school and friends that become her family? Being the SPECIAL one of all their kind? WOW. I have to say I like the books – I DO. But, really?!REALLY?! They couldn’t even have made a stab at being original. Like put the tattoo on her butt cheek for god sakes. That’s original. The worst part is that the picture of the two “authors” makes them look like they’re not con artists. I’d even say they were crafty if it wasn’t actually the worst way to duplicate it ever. This Spears-like mother-daughter duo has taken “why change something if it’s already good” to a whole new level. But, again. Because I am a sucker for pretty vampires (hello…Spike and Angel), I love this series. I am glad they wrote it. But, that doesn’t mean I can’t hate them. It’s like Dan Brown all over again. The books could have been SO MUCH BETTER if anyone else had written it. I mean really – if you have a good idea for a book – sell it to someone who knows how to write. Jeez.

I totally agree with what you are saying! I mean…some of the things Zoey says such as “bullpoopie” makes her sound like she’s a grandma trying not to swear in front of her grandchildren..they could really do better on making her sound like a normal teenager. 5 star story though.

Twilight is not a bad story but it gets on my nervs becase it’s 2 much detailed And the whole robert pattinson thing is as ugly as hell (in my opinion)twilight is not the only story about vampire romance so why dont you people get over it! I even heard that this girl who was wearing anti-twilight shirt got bullied at school because of her own opinion!!!! I’am sick of it 2 because my friend is a total twilight lover and when she asked if i like edward cullen i said no because i house of night series are much better to me so when i told her she got so frekin mad she was actually calling my names!!! I dont understand if they are going to make the House Of Night books into a move (though I really, really hope that it does) but to me, the books I prefer more than Twilight. Along with Vampire Academy. I love both HOF and VA, both my favorite. But that’s my oppinion. I really do wish and hope that it happens

HOF IS AMAZING but I love vampire acadamy too before I hof i read twilight before that i read va and before that a book series called vampire kisses. On my list it goes HOF, Vampire Kisses, Twilight then VA. if you liked hof try vampire kisses

oh my god. if HON came out at the movies i would be OVER THE MOON. it’s neck and neck with twilight as my fave books of all time. definately a good idea.

because the romance in twilight kind of is a fairy tale
where in this book series it was more like how teenagers are just raging hormones, which to me seems more truthful then devoted love after like a couple of months
