Harry Potter + Twilight = House of Night?

Harry Potter isn’t the only kid who developed abilities as a wee lad and had to be sent off to some faraway school to hone his skills. Zoey Redbird had to go through the same thing when she developed vampiric abilities at puberty. Yes, that’s right, it’s the female vampire equivalent of Harry Potter, minus the weird accents and flying around on brooms and freaky, evil looking British kids which, come on, are just bloody creepy. Hollywood has been looking for another Harry Potter ever since Harry Potter got to be Harry Potter, with pretty much every would-be franchise falling by the wayside except for the “Chronicles of Narnia” series. The latest stab at Potter cash is a series of young adult novels about teen vampires called “House of Night”, currently in its fourth volume of a planned nine volumes. No doubt, the current out-of-this-world popularity of Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” books and upcoming movies had something to do with it, too.
Variety has your sordid cash grab news:
“House of Night” takes the vampire myth in a “Harry Potter”-esque direction. In the series, “vampyres” are accepted in society; they possess a genetic anomaly that manifests itself in some people at puberty. Vampyres are “marked” and sent to the House of Night, a school that offers training necessary to become an adult vampyre.
Protag is Zoey Redbird, whose ordinary life is thrown into disarray when she becomes a vampyre and must change schools and enter a brand new world.
“P.C. and Kristin Cast created a thrilling world that juxtaposes teen drama with supernatural suspense, using the transition from human to vampire as a metaphor for the transition from adolescence to adulthood,” Birnbaum said.
Translation: “Yeah, we’re trying to cash in on Harry Potter and Twilight, what of it? Kids are suckers!”
Of course, don’t tell them that nothing has stuck since Potter except for the aforementioned “Narnia” franchise, and even that isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. Then again, there’s the upcoming “Twilight” books, which are destined to become bigger than Potter in the States. Add a dash of Potter, a dash of Twilight, and you get “House of Night”. CHA-CHING? The producers certainly hope so.

i’ve read all the house of night books that are out so far. i really like them. i think it would be really awsome to see on big screen. i’m also a twilight and harry potter fan. so i see no problem in watching a new kind of vampire series. especially when the girl is more of the hero. and not having a vampire save her.
I agree with you on that. It would be cool to see a girl on big screen being the hero. Besides i want to see Zoey and all the characters in theatres. I read all the books on the House of Night Series too. They were really good. I loved them all. I am also a Harry Potter and Twilight fan as well. That means you meant someone who is in common with you. Yes your right!!! No guy has to really save Zoey all the time, because she is the heroine.
i totally agree they are all awesom and it would be great for them to come out with a movie for them all or if she adds on to hunted cuz it was so damn good i want to see zoey change and keep her life going and see what happens to erik and heath… that would be totally awesom
yeah i agree….it would be so cool to see what Zoey Redbid brings to the tables…..i would be good to see a chick rule the vampire world…..cant wait for the movie….i have read all the books and i think this will be a successful movie series.

The Cullen family are not the kind of vampires your thinking of in old stories you heard in the past. They are vampires. They just walk in daylight like real humans. They can drink human blood, but they don’t because they don’t want to be monsters, so they drink animal blood instead. Why in the world do you think Edward can’t stand Bella sweet smell when he first met her??? Well because he wanted to drink her blood, but does not. GET IT!!! The Cullen Family have cold skin, Speed, strength, and can sparkle in sunlight which reveal themselves as vampires. That’s why they don’t go into sunlight, so people won’t find out their different. They don’t sleep ether. I hope you do understand now.

I agree with you on that, because I think it’s cool that vampire Edward Cullen Sparkles. HOT! By the way they can’t come against that unless there is magic, and using all five elements at once. I still agree on the Sparkle part though. No one can compete with that.

Actually the books are really really good and it is very refreshing that a female is the heroic in the series. I know that Bella was the hero at the end of the twilight series but Zoey Redbird is the hero throughout this series. that’s what beats a sparkling vampire

I think the House of Night series are really good. I’ve read all the books that are out so far and I like the fact that Zoey doesn’t need a hero because she is the heroine of the series. And even though nothing can compare to Twilight the House of Night series have a different view on vampires which I think is really awesome, because is a new concept.

Twilight SUCKED whats so special about a vampire that sparkles? the fact that he sparkled just made3 him seem like a fag no offense just i don’t think the author wanted him to seem like one honestly i like the basic idea of vampires but nothing bad-ass is supposed to sparkle besides cars and motorcycles even if he can beat most everybody i still don’t like these books.

I completely loved House of Night! I think they should cast Adam Gregory (90210) as Eric Night. Check it. He is just like him!! (or at least how I imagined him). Of course TWILIGHT RULEEEES, there’s nothing like Edward Cullen, sorry. He is an obsession. And Jacob Black isn’t bad either… Harry Potter is also great, so if this movie will be a mix, more reason to watch it!

OH man. I just read thre first three HON books and this is ridiculous. A mark on her forehead?? Leaving behind a hateful family? A school and friends that become her family? Being the SPECIAL one of all their kind? WOW. I have to say I like the books – I DO. But, really?!REALLY?! They couldn’t even have made a stab at being original. Like put the tattoo on her butt cheek for god sakes. That’s original. The worst part is that the picture of the two “authors” makes them look like they’re not con artists. I’d even say they were crafty if it wasn’t actually the worst way to duplicate it ever. This Spears-like mother-daughter duo has taken “why change something if it’s already good” to a whole new level. But, again. Because I am a sucker for pretty vampires (hello…Spike and Angel), I love this series. I am glad they wrote it. But, that doesn’t mean I can’t hate them. It’s like Dan Brown all over again. The books could have been SO MUCH BETTER if anyone else had written it. I mean really – if you have a good idea for a book – sell it to someone who knows how to write. Jeez.

I dont understand if they are going to make the House Of Night books into a move (though I really, really hope that it does) but to me, the books I prefer more than Twilight. Along with Vampire Academy. I love both HOF and VA, both my favorite. But that’s my oppinion. I really do wish and hope that it happens
