Harry Potter + Twilight = Wicked?

Horror Movie News, Wicked Movie — By Nix on October 23, 2009

The last time I thought Hollywood had found the perfect blending of two popular teen franchises, “Harry Potter” and “Twilight”, it was “House of Night”, a series of young adult novels by by P.C. and Kristin Cast. There hasn’t been a whole lot of movement on that movie since we last reported on it last year, but the latest has writing brothers Aaron and Matthew Benay selling a pitch to adapt the “Wicked” novels into a franchise for Dreamworks.

Written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie, “Wicked” is a series of young adult novels described as “‘Twilight’ meets ‘Wanted’ with witchcraft”. Wait, no “Harry Potter” comparisons? There have been five books in the series so far, “Witch,” “Curse,” “Legacy,” “Spellbound” and “Resurrection.”

From the book jacket:

Holly Cathers’s world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly’s sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Or the way a friend is injured after a freak attack from a vicious falcon. And there’s the undeniable, magnetic attraction to a boy Holly barely knows.

Holly, Amanda, and Nicole are about to be launched into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield dangerous results. The girls will assume their roles in an intergenerational feud beyond their wildest imaginations…and in doing so, will attempt to fulfill their shared destiny.

Cats that make wishes come true and attacking crazed falcons? Plus, three young nubile girls doing things “beyond our wildest imaginations”? Can you say, potential?

The Benay boys will be adapting the first two books in the series, “Witch” and “Curse” into the first movie, with an eye toward a possible franchise.

Don't read it, it's wicked. Get it? Ahem.
