Has Thor Found his Loki? And is his Name Tom Hiddleston?

Comic Book Movie News, Thor (2011) Movie — By Nix on May 18, 2009

I have to admit, when we reported the rumor that Josh Harnett was up for the role of Loki in “Thor” back in March, I didn’t have a whole lot of problems liking the idea. Harnett has that sneaky look about him, or maybe it’s just those beady eyes of his. Either way, I thought then that he would have made a pretty good Loki (not too muscular, and tall and skinny, just as Loki the trickster should be), and considering that a 20-something has just been cast as Thor, Harnett would have made a great evil half-brother. Alas, according to Nikki Finke, who broke the Thor casting before the official announcement, it’s not Harnett, but a British actor name Tom Hiddleston (pictured, left) that has nabbed the role.

Finke via Deadline Hollywood couldn’t get Marvel to confirm the casting, but she was right once already, so it’s a good bet she’s right again. A little bit about Hiddleston:

He’s Tom Hiddleston, unknown to American audiences but an award-winning British actor and Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts (RADA) graduate. He played Winston Churchill’s son in HBO’s The Gathering Storm, but, more to the point, note that Hiddleston starred in Ivanov opposite Sir Kenneth on the London stage and also starred with him in the BBC miniseries Wallander. In 2008, Hiddleston was nominated twice for the Laurence Olivier Stage Award for Best Newcomer – for his roles in Othello and Cymbeline. He won for the latter.

I still think Harnett would have made a good Loki…

Below: The reason why he wears green? Cause he’s green with envy. Get it? Ahem.
