Hawk the Slayer Gets a Sequel

Hawk the Slayer 2 Movie — By Nix on February 4, 2009

Oh dear Lord. Do I remember this movie or what? I didn’t even know the title of it, but once I saw the trailer for it, yeah, I remember it. The thing that did it was the elf with the quick-firing bow. Okay, so he didn’t really fire that bow all that quickly in real life, but clever editing (i.e. obvious and retarded) made it seem like he could fire 50 arrows before you could even blink. Of course, this didn’t really explain how his quiver kept refilling, but whatever, such questions do not need to be asked when we are talking about … “Hawk the Slayer!” So now are you ready for … “Hawk the Hunter”! Watch out, Voltan, you magnificent bastard!

Word through Joblo.com is that the blokes over at Jinga Films is in production on a sequel to “Hawk the Slayer”, to be called “Hawk the Hunter”. Original director Terry Marcel, who made his feature film debut with the 1980 original, will return to direct, while “Star Trek: Nemesis” star Tom Hardy (pictured, right) will take over the role of Hawk, the lad with the Sword of the Mind.

Here’s Jinga Film’s announcement:

Sequel to the 1980’s sword and sorcery classic HAWK THE SLAYER.

HAWK THE HUNTER has signed Tom Hardy (Bronson) to play Hawk whilst producer Andrew Growcock of Westwood Productions has the script out to several stars to play Hawks’ nemesis, Voltan (played by Jack Palance in HAWK THE SLAYER).

The action will be brought up to date with a $2,000,000 CGI budget from FX company Yard Media in Ireland.

“It’s a thrill to become involved with the Hawk franchise” said Jinga’s director Julian Richards. “Hawk The Slayer made an impact on my generation and I am confident that with Terry’s vision for the sequal, Hawk the Hunter will make an impact on todays audience”.

Egads. Hawk and his quick-firing elf are back! Here’s hoping they get someone who can chew scenery the way Jack Palance did in the original. I mean, take a look at this trailer for the original movie. Double egads, Jack!

Bad dialogue, goofy storyline, silly effects like silly string spider web spells and the one armed crossbowman! How could you NOT love Hawk?!?!

“Maybe they will leave them in peace.”
“Yes, the peace of the dead.”

BWAHAHA Awesome lines! BTW the Elf’s name is Crow!
