He-Man Movie Update: Eternia is … Earth?

Written by Nix | September 4th, 2007 | 3 Comments |

I used to run home every day to catch the latest episodes of “Transformers” when I was a kid, but I never did that with “He-Man”, and as a result nothing about the upcoming He-Man live-action movie fills me with great excitement. But I know that’s just me, and that there are fans of the show out there who are as rabid about the Masters of the Universe guys and gals as I was about the transforming robots. Having said that, I feel your pain when it seems like The Powers That Be are going out of their way to fubar the show you know for the sake of, well, being different. That seems to be what’s happening with the upcoming He-Man movie, namely the location of Eternia…

Says IESB, who writes an open letter to He-Man’s writer, Justin Marks:

Why am I bringing this up right now? Well because I was told the current idea is to make Eternia here on Earth, kind of like a modern day Middle Earth. I don’t like this man and I am sure that fans of the franchise are not going to care for this either. As a matter of fact, I have been told that you are keeping a very similar template when comparing He-Man to your Voltron script…I am telling you, this is destined for failure.

I know the Hollywood spiel, since Voltron is taking place in a futuristic and post-apocalyptic Earth, the movie going audience is going to relate more to the material because the danger is “relatable.” This is the reason you are following the same approach to He-Man and the Eternia universe. Bad call, Ripley, bad call.

It looks like you are trying to be creative and artistic with these properties when you don’t have to be. You don’t have re-invent the wheel and fuck it up doing so.

Huh. So Eternia is here on Earth?

I don’t know how to feel about that. Do I care? Do I not? I’m confused.

I was one of those when i was young to watch every episode of Heman in the early 80s and i feel like this os going to turn out bad if the setting is not in Eternia itself. Eternia was part of the magic you would always see something cool about it then just will not seem the same if it is On earth that is where the queen was from all other were from eternia just not right in my opinion to set it on earth. Id like to see some shadow beasts and grundle the dragon speak to heman about his travels if he is to go to earth. Movie has to be atleat 3 hour long to even capture the full grasp of this story. No 2 hour movie can do this. Just my opinion though.

What “F” is the point? They did that with the LAST crappy He-Man movie and it sucked major donkey-balls! They had the PERFECT He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) and the PERFECT Evil Lynn (Meg Foster) and they STILL managed to screw it up.

If they set this new one on Earth, I’m not going anywhere near this turd of a film. Same with Voltron (which was one of my favorite cartoons. I still TiVo it now, and I’m 37!)

Jesus…Hollywood needs to get a clue, quickly.

Hollywood is flunking out in the “Original Ideas” department.
Wait until I finish my book! I got some new stuff for them.
