Hellraiser Remake Will go the Teen Route, Possibly with Amber Heard

As you may already know, there is a “Hellraiser” sequel (called “Revelations”) coming out very soon and going directly to DVD, but there is also a big-budget remake in the works, and has been in the works for some time. I’ve been a bit confused about how that’s going to work, but as it turns out, Bloody-Disgusting has a perfectly good explanation: The Weinsteins greenlit “Revelations” in order to maintain the rights to the property; meanwhile, the big-screen remake continues to chug along.

Now word is, Amber Heard is being pursued to play the lead in the remake, which is being geared towards a teen-friendly audience. Also, Christian E. Christiansen, who recently directed the teen slasher “The Roommate”, is the frontrunner to direct.

So basically of the two “Hellraiser” films, the direct-to-DVD sequel may end up being the grittier (and possibly better?) of the two. Who would have thunk it?

On the flip side, the sequel is coming to DVD without Doug Bradley (the original Pinhead), and it’s entirely feasible that Bradley might stick the pins back on his face for a big-time theatrical remake.
