Hey Ladies, Captain America’s Looking for a Girlfriend. Interested?

Captain America's ShieldSince Peggy Carter, Captain America’s squeeze from World War II has, you know, gotten old and whatnot, the good Captain needs a new, younger girlfriend to keep up with him for his upcoming sequel, “The Winter Soldier”. As a result, the call has gone out to all the available ladies in Hollywood and beyond. In today’s Hollywood, that means one lone American lass will have to battle four accented harlots for the role. USA! USA! USA!

Ahem.

Deadline reports that sibling directors Joe and Anthony Russo are currently testing five ladies for the sequel’s unidentified female lead/love interest. They are, in no particular order:

Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”)
Jessica Brown Findlay (“Downton Abbey”)
Teresa Palmer (“I am Number Four”)
Imogen Poots (“Fright Night”)
Alison Brie (“Community”)

For you fans keeping score at home, that would be three Brits, one Aussie, and an American. But hey, Captain America has always been an International kinda fella, and his latest girlfriend was a Brit, so why change now?

One of those ladies may end up with the part, but one thing’s for certain: Scarlett Johnsson will probably be showing up in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, reprising her role of The Black Widow in the upcoming sequel. The two previously battled alien invaders together in “The Avengers”, and seemed to have hit it off. And given the sequel’s Russian ties, it makes perfect sense for the Black Widow to show up in “Winter Soldier”…

Assuming this new squeeze for Cap will be Sharon Carter, out of the actresses mentioned above I could see Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots or Emilia Clarke in the role of Sharon Carter if they go for the comic interpertation of the character. Allison Brie and Jessica Brown Findlay more resemble the version of Peggy Carter in Captain America The First Avenger.
I’m really exited at the possibility of Scarlett Johannsen reprising the role of Black Widow! Having her comic storyline unfold on the big screen would be awesome!

Agreed on all fronts. Also i don’t know how much of Widow’s story will come out in a Cap film but they may show her ties to Winter Soldier.

A backstory showing Romanoff and Barnes on an early mission would be cool! Maybe highlighting the “Drakov’s daughter incident” or “the hospital fire” mentioned by Loki in The Avengers!

Indeed! And have them make mention that SHIELD has been hunting for the ellusive opperative known as the Winter Soldier for some time.

That would be bad ass! SHIELD was very heavily involved in Winter Soldier’s original plotline so it will be a natural fit to the cinematic Universe that has the organization at its center. I am really exited for this. I’m wondering how they plan on using Falcon in the story.

Random thought. A few weeks ago a rumor went around about Viggo Mortensen ppossibly playing Dr. Strange in a big screen adaptation of the sourcerer supreme. Marvel mentioned that they were interested in the possibility of Mortensen being a part of their cinematic universe. Mortensen would be a great pick for Aleksander Lukin, the russian handler of The Winter Soldier and ally of Captain America’s arch enemy, The Red Skull from the first film. Mortensen’s portrayal of Russian mobster Nikolai Luzhin in Eastern Promises is enough of an audition for me!
When trying to cast a Cap movie after the first Ironman movie my top pick for Aleksander Lukin was Alan Rickman. Rickman is a bit too old for the part now.

He’d be great for Lukin! And he was rumored to pop up in Thor 2. Still think Caviezel and Luke Evans are best for the part.

        Agreed.
