As rumored last year, Hollywood via Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have now made it official: they’re taking another crack at Japan’s biggest import since sake and businessmen with terrible singing voices — Godzilla. Legendary’s head honcho Thomas Tull announced (via Variety) that the company has finally acquired the rights to the Toho beast, and that a new scaly pic will be forthcoming.
It’s still unclear if this will be a reboot or a sequel as previously reported. Either way, Legendary’s got a pretty good rep, having put out blockbuster hits like “300”, “The Dark Knight”, and “The Hangover”. Toho will release the film in Japan, while Warner will take care of the rest of the world.
The announcement of a director is expected shortly, which would seem to indicate they’ve already found one.
