Hugh Grant is the latest addition to Guy Ritchie’s big-budget “The Man from UNCLE” adaptation, the film that suffered plenty of setbacks before it finally landed two leading men willing to stick around for more than a few months.
THR has the English charmer and fan of hardworking girls everywhere joining “Man of Steel’s” Henry Cavill and “The Lone Ranger’s” Armie Hammer on the film, an adaptation of the popular ’60s TV show. Cavill and Hammer will play antagonistic agents working for the mysterious United Network Command for Law Enforcement aka U.N.C.L.E.
Hugh Grant will, coming off a pretty great turn in “Cloud Atlas”, will be playing the head of British Naval Intelligence in the upcoming movie. It would be funny if the role was like Michael York’s Basil Exposition from the “Austin Powers” movies. You know, the guy who pops up to throw out some exposition to move the movie forward.
“Seventh Son’s” Alicia Vikander will also star as the film’s female lead, with “The Man from UNCLE” set to shoot this September.
Ritchie is coming off the “Sherlock Holmes” movies, and co-wrote the script with Lionel Wigram. They are also producing along with John Davis.
