Yikes. Is a $185 million weekend in store for Francis Lawrence’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”? It’s certainly starting to look that way, at least according to early tracking for the movie. Or if it doesn’t hit that benchmark, then it could come pretty close. According to The Wrap, though, the film’s lack of a 3D gimmick could hurt it. I personally applaud the film for not going with the 3D nonsense.
All of this is certainly good news for Lionsgate, with “Catching Fire”, the second in the “Hunger Games” franchise based on the trilogy of Young Adult books by Suzanne Collins, scheduled to open next month. After this, they have two more movies, having split up the third book, “Mockingjay”, into a two-parter in order to
squeeze as much money as possible out of the franchise accommodate the book’s war storyline.
Meanwhile, here’s a very cool IMAX poster for the movie (via Badass Digest). The details in this thing is insane, so you might want to click on it to get a better look.
